Job description
Tempur-Sealy largest mattress manufacturing facility is looking for a 2nd shift production supervisor (4 pm to 2 am Monday - Thursday and as the production schedule demands.) Full benefits package available (medical, dental, vision, 401K, leave, and more.)
Salary Range: $56k-80K
SUMMARY:
Supervises and coordinates activities of production workers.May assist or train new and junior-level supervisors, and act as backup to Production Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary duties and responsibilities include the following, however, Management reserves the right to assign or reassign other appropriate duties to this job at any time.
- Follow all safety guidelines and participate as a fully-empowered team member to achieve organization-wide goal of zero incidents.
- Key contact for continuous improvement in department with regards to safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
- Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustments of machines.
- Generates the final production schedules for production lines.
- Schedule production equipment to meet delivery date while maximizing manufacturing efficiencies.
- Key member of scrap reduction team, responsible for suggesting and implementing corrective actions in manufacturing.
- Key member or Project Lead for 5S program
- Department lead for ISO certification.
- Ongoing communication and follow-through with crew concerning safety, quality and scrap issues.
- Conducts downtime root cause analysis and suggests/implements corrective action.
- Calculates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
- Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures and instructions to meet productions schedules, safety regulations, and quality requirements.
- Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
- Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
- Initiates and implements plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
- Maintains production records, and employee attendance and performance data.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for positions in assigned area.
- Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
- Act as back up to Production Manager in his/her absence.
- Train new supervisors and mentor junior supervisors.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises production employees in his/her area of responsibility and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Calls upon people management expertise to provide guidance to subordinates or junior supervisors.Mentors team leads and junior supervisors for personal development.Must focus on creating and maintaining an engaged workforce, withdedication to operating safely, producing quality products, and continuously improving the production area as related to process and key performance indicators (ex: scrap, cost, utilization).

Requirements:QUALIFICATIONS:

- Intermediate knowledge of PC usage required to include using Word, Excel, Microsoft Windows, and data entry operations.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, business, or related disciplineis preferred.
- 3-5 years of direct supervisory experience in manufacturing environment, preferably supervising teams >20 individuals.
- Combination of education, skills and experience will be considered.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, procedures manual, and to comprehend basic instructions. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, lead, co-workers and other personnel. Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English. Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Must be able to measure using the metric system
- Intermediate math skills are needed to include the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions, to practical situations; ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks associated with the production of mattresses.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Fork truck license a plus, ability to complete fork truck license certification required.
- Preference will be given to Six Sigma Green Belt, Lean Manufacturing, or other related Certification.
