Job description
THE POSITION:
The Lead Program Assistant is a Citywide classification; current vacancies exist in the Police Department however future citywide vacancies may be filled from this recruitment.
You are:

- Passionate about restorative justice
- Skilled at working as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Preferably have experiences living or working in Hayward and/or Alameda County
- Preferably bilingual but not required.
What you will do:
Under direction, represent program to the public through public service announcements, classes, workshops, events and presentations- Under direction, develop and implement policies and procedures for implementing various, education, community and volunteer programs to assist youth
- Work with supervisors to identify community needs and opportunities and design programs to fill those needs and achieve identified program outcomes.
- Maintain systems for tracking activities and performance measures.

Principles and practices of case management, customer service and community engagement.

Laws and regulations relating to applicable program operations.

Basic word processing, desktop publishing and spreadsheet applications (Microsoft Office program suite).
Ability to:
Develop and/or assist in developing effective education/tutoring programs, policies and procedures to meet identified program goals.
Develop and maintain positive effective working relationships with community groups, organizations, co-workers, City departments, and the public.
Communicate effectively with a wide range of clients and agencies.
Work a flexible schedule; must be able to work weekends and evenings as required.
Prepare clear, concise written reports, letters, and memoranda.
JOB RELATED AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
You have:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Two (2) years of experience equivalent to the Library Program Assistant or two (2) years progressively responsible experience in case management, education/tutoring program coordination, customer service, project management or similar field.
Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, Counseling, Education or a closely related field.
License: Possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License.

Job Related Testing (examination)
The examination process will result in a ranked eligible register of candidates for hiring consideration by the department derived from any of the exam processes mentioned above.
Department Interviews - Actual hire depends on success in the departmental selection process.
Candidates under final consideration for employment with the City should expect to undergo an employment background/reference check that may include, but is not limited to: employment history verification, medical evaluation, confirmation of educational credentials and degrees, licenses including driver's license, registrations, certificates, and other credentials as part of the appointment process. Some positions, depending on the nature of the work, also require a credit check and a review of Summary Criminal History obtained from the State Department of Justice through Live Scan Fingerprinting.
