Job description
JOBProperty Maintenance Officer is responsible for enforcement of the property maintenance codes and zoning ordinances adopted by the City of Goodlettsville.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Receive, investigate, and process complaints and render code enforcement: enforce City code and ordinances; and prepare cases and testify in city court when required. Know how to effectively deal with emotional and/or angry citizens in a tactful manner. Operate computers, phones, cameras, copier and fax machines. Ability to work independently and exercise good judgement as to when an enforcement issue should be escalated to supervising staff. Patrol the City to ensure compliance with City codes. Prepare cases for code enforcement hearings; testify in court as necessary on behalf of the City. Remove illegal and off-site signage from road right-of-way and utility poles. Coordinates with grass cutting contractors to abate properties in violation of the tall grass ordinance. Attend training conferences.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a high level of attention to detail. High school diploma or GED. A minimum of 1 year Codes Enforcement or related work experience in the customer service field. Must obtain certification as property Maintenance/Housing Inspector within 1 year of employment. TN Drivers license.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Physical Demands: required to stand, stoop, walk, sit, bend, kneel, squat, and crawl. Able to move safely over loose soil, slopped surfaces, tall grass and uneven terrain. Ability to have situational awareness while conducting inspections and be aware of dangerous situations. Ability to climb ladders, work in extreme weather conditions, lift and carry items found in the office and signs used to post properties in violations of property maintenance codes.
