Job description
The role of the PT Instructional Aide, Basic and Transitional Studies (B&TS), Dare Campus is to develop, instruct and assess students in the B&TS orientation program. The Instructional Aide works in a collaborative manner with the Coordinator, B&TS, Pathways and Testing and Adult High School (AHS)/High School Equivalent (HSE) Instructors.
The PT Instructional Aide receives supervision from the Compliance Services Coordinator, B&TS.
- Type or word-process a variety of documents including general correspondence, reports, forms, HSE and Learning Center applications and forms, copy and collate forms and records.
- Act as a receptionist; answer phone; convey telephone messages; respond to requests and inquiries from students, faculty and staff; schedule HSE appointments; provide routine information and give directions.
- Participate in the maintenance of office files, reports, records and other data; gather and compile the required information as necessary; sort and file documents and records including HSE paperwork, student records and catalogs according to standard policies and procedures.
- Run minor errands; deliver paperwork, check mail and obtain supplies on and off campus.
- Perform minor maintenance duties at the Learning Center; maintain office and testing supplies.
- Assist in student enrollment; verify accuracy and completeness of paperwork; add students in database.
- Assist in new student orientation; compile a list of persons interested in the program, assist with pre-registration paperwork, and administer placement testing.
- Administer Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) written placement test, score and document results.
- Record TABE scores on LEIS forms and enter into database and on student roster.
- Assist students with registration of HSE exams and creating accounts with online testing services.
- Contact students with poor class attendance records.
- Assist students with securing funding for HSE testing through Edgewood Discretionary Fund.
- Assist students with transportation needs through Inter-County Public Transportation Authority and Kid's Taxi.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Required:
- An associate's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
- More than one year experience in a professional office environment.
Knowledge of:
- Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment.
- Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation.
- Basic word processing and database methods, techniques and programs.
- English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Basic mathematical principles.
- Perform general clerical activities including the maintenance of appropriate files and compiling information for reports.
- Type and word-process at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
- Respond to routine inquiries and requests for information.
- Maintain the security of confidential student records.
- Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Explain instructional tasks to adult students.
