The Division of Shared Services and Business Operations (SSBO) empowers Denver’s communities to live better, longer by providing leadership, support, data, and resources to all Divisions as they develop equitable and innovative solutions to challenges, serve our customers and engage our partners, respond to public health emergencies, and deliver quality outcomes through learning and performance improvement. SSBO promotes effective, safe, and secure operations; race and social justice; workforce development; and open and transparent government. SSBO service areas include Board of Public Health & Environment operations, communications and marketing, equity and engagement, emergency preparedness & response, strategic planning, data management, performance management and quality improvement, accreditation, contract, grant, and budget administration, and legislative services.
The Shared Services and Business Operations Division has three openings for Public Health AmeriCorps members/ Community Health Worker Apprentice. These one-year paid positions provide an opportunity for someone interested in learning more about a career in public health. Through supportive on-the-job training and related classroom instruction using in-person and virtual formats, the AmeriCorps member / Community Health Worker will gain the skills and knowledge needed to advance into a public health career. Certain requirements are required to be completed within a 1-year on-the-job training period. See additional information about each position below.
General job duties and responsibilities for these positions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Conducts community outreach to individuals, communities, service providers, and groups.

Trains in and assists individuals and communities in navigating health and social service systems.
-
Implements individual and community assessments.
-
Trains in and provides culturally and linguistically appropriate health education and information
-
Provides coaching and social support.
-
Trains in, assists, and provides cultural mediation among individuals, communities, and health and social service systems
-
Learns and assists with building professional relationships and networks within community resources and with service providers across systems to understand client services and resources.

Trains in keeping routine records, writing reports, and completing forms.

Trains in and complies with standard safety rules and procedures. Learns the industry standards, regulatory standards, operational processes, and other guiding professional practices.

Along with all department staff, this position will actively participate on an emergency preparedness and response team to support DDPHE’s responsibilities outlined in the City’s Emergency Operations Plan. This may require being ‘on-call’ from time to time to help respond to emergencies. Additional training commensurate with assigned duties will be provided.

Administrative Support for two Community Health Worker / Navigator Programs: This position will support two programs related to community health worker and navigation services, one at DDPHE and the other with the Metro Denver Partnership for Health (MDPH). DDPHE is a participating member of MDPH. This work includes collaborating with public health and health care partners in the metro area to support community-based organizations in promoting positive health among their networks.
Denver Animal Protection Volunteer Program Assistant: This position will support community outreach and education activities in the animal shelter’s volunteer program, including onboarding, orientation, interviews, and scheduling; conducting trainings for volunteers and supporting general administrative duties. This person will cultivate relationships with volunteers by supporting regular communication, planning, and facilitating appreciation efforts and community engagement events. This position will work closely with shelter staff and assist in developing content for social media. This position requires animal handling.
Community & Behavioral Health Substance Use Program: This position will support the substance use program which aims to prevent substance use, improve treatment access and retention, and reduce harm associated with drug use. This person will work closely with the program team and assist in outreach, education, and resource provision.

One (1) year or more of work or volunteer experience in peer support or advocacy.

Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate. Must enroll in a recognized apprentice program.

Experience Requirement: Seventeen (17) to twenty-five (25) years of age.

Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of peer support or related job experience or volunteer work may be substituted for the high school education.

License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
-
Must show proof of registration with Connecting Colorado as a registered member by time of hire.
-
Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
Requirements to be completed after hiring:
-
Within 5 days of being hired, register with local Workforce Center at Connecting Colorado or update registration if currently registered with Connecting Colorado and email DDPHE verifying you have completed or updated registration with Connecting Colorado.

Within 45 after being hired, complete Apprenticeship Agreement and submit to Apprenticeship Sponsor. DDPHE will assist with completion of Apprenticeship Agreement and submitting paperwork to the Apprenticeship Sponsor.

After being hired, must successfully pass background check for TrailHead Institute.
