Manager, Indirect Purchasing
Job Description:
Job Summary:
This position combines the responsibilities of a Commodity Manager along with people leadership and supervision, as well as project management for the broader Indirect procurement team. The Commodity Manager aspect of the role develops and manages working relationships with both internal business owners and suppliers of indirect materials and services. The Indirect Commodity Manager leads business owners in the development and implementation of recommended strategies and goals for assigned materials and services. These strategies support business objectives related to quality assurance, technology, risk mitigation, and total cost. The Commodity Manager is involved with resolution of supplier issues and finding opportunities for improved business relationships which are mutually beneficial. The Commodity Manager for Indirect material and services is responsible to lead supplier negotiations - including the agreements and associated terms and conditions.
Key Job Elements
Commodity Manager Responsibilities:
- Leads supplier negotiations in support of completing purchase orders and supply agreements for indirect materials and services while ensuring supplier’s conformance to company’s terms and conditions.
- Leverage enterprise software solutions to identify procurement opportunities and realize cost savings
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal business owners and suppliers to resolve supplier issues.
- Continuously monitors agreements and assures commercial requirements are proactively addressed.
- Introduces innovative processes and process improvements that drive increased value and reduced duplication / waste to ATI partners.
- Partners closely with legal department in working through critical contract language.
- Serves as the direct functional representative to Executive leadership and their respective functional staffs on matters relating to the purchase of Indirect materials and services.
- Leverage enterprise software solutions to identify procurement opportunities and realize cost savings
- Supports business owner in the development of statements of work and implementation and transition plans to ensure effective service and material solutions.
- Active participant on the Defense Team (Ops, PE, Defense Sales, and GSC) with respect the compliant and timely development of sourcing solutions for government funded projects. This requires adherence to the associated corporate, Purchasing, and government regulations on several simultaneous projects for the Defense Team.
- Analyzes commodity spend data, market trends, and dynamics along with the assigned functional business owner.
- The Commodity Manager partners with the business owner to evaluate or identify sourcing initiatives within designated materials or services.
- Serves in a project manager capacity in various types of sourcing related projects.
- Partners with the business owner to establish sourcing strategies by proactively reviewing supplier performance to various delivery and SLA’s.
- Develops and supervises working relationships with both internal functions and suppliers to handle resolution of supplier issues.
- Presents to management procurement opportunities and associated analysis that are aligned with corporate strategic plans and cost reduction initiatives.
- Applies critical thinking in evaluating strategic sourcing alternatives.
- Adheres to corporate and procurement policies and procedures.
Supervisory Component of the Position
- The supervisor aspect of the assignment includes people leadership responsibilities for a sub-group of the Indirect Purchasing team. In this capacity the working supervisor will lead employee development and growth initiatives for the assigned team, coordinate the sourcing projects and associated business plans of the assigned Indirect CM's, and review and approve Purchase Requisitions and Sourcing Council Recommendations that teh assigned team generates.
- The managerial responsibility for the team also includes the required Workday or departmental people related documentation or administrative responsibilities.
Project Management Component of the Position
- Supervises various data analytics projects for the total Indirect Purchasing team.
Other Key Competencies
- Experience with supply chain principles.
- Experience with capital equipment and machinery specifications and / or procurement.
- Knowledge of machining processes, tooling, technical drawings, and statements of work.
- Exposure to corporate environment or manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Understanding of contract language and commercial requirements, including the negotiation of terms and conditions.
- Experience with corporate compliance and governance requirements.
- Ability to organize, plan, document, and prioritize work.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with others in a variety of work and group settings.
- Demonstrates effective conflict management skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate orally and in written format in cross-functional environments, including management level.

Required Qualifications/Education/Skills
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or greater
- 5 or more years of experience in the field or in a related area
Additional Required Candidate Qualifications
- Travel can be up to 25%
Preferred Qualifications/Education/Skills
Educational Qualifications Preferred:
- BS in Manufacturing or Electrical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business or Organizational Leadership Management
Additional Preferred Candidate Qualifications
- Multiple years of buying experience in an industrial setting or experience with machinery and equipment, manufacturing processes, or technical statements of work
- Experience with government contracts language
- Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP)
- Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM)
- Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM)
- Certified Professional in Supplier Diversity (CPSD)
- Certified Six Sigma Green Belt
