Overview:
This position reports to the Total Quality Manager and is responsible for the daily functions of the Quality Assurance Department and supports the Safe Quality Food system. As the leader for the QA team, this position will assist and mentor to ensure overall food safety and quality is the priority. Will be responsible for accurate record keeping verification.

Schedule is Monday through Friday with changes possible to include evening and weekend hours when needed to cover for team member vacations (responsible to cover for technicians), training needs, and other circumstances.

Responsibilities:
  • Coaches QA Technicians and ensures they are on task while addressing any issues.
  • Provides coverage for team (when required) by completing their tasks or scheduling as needed.
  • Performs verification of technician activities through record review and other activities.
  • Schedules QA Technician coverage to meet production scheduling needs.
  • Ensures team member adherence and compliance with GMP and safety regulations.
  • Assists or leads in refresher training of team members.
  • Monitors finished product quality for compliance with specifications.
  • Conduct shelf-life studies as necessary, as well as oversight of the weekly shelf-life monitoring of the high-volume products
  • Coordinates and/or conducts microbiological and environmental testing.
  • Monitors chemical inventory and wastewater pH.
  • Assists in monitoring knife storage/handling in the production room.
  • Serves as a communication liaison between day shift and evening shift for identifying areas that may need attention.
  • Communicates with Total Quality Manger, Quality Assurance Technicians, Sanitation Supervisor, Sanitation team members, Production Manager, and Processing Supervisors regarding quality or sanitation issues in non-compliance.
  • Reviews and revises (as necessary) policies, procedures, and forms
  • Conducts annual reviews of team members.
  • The Quality Supervisor provides back up for the Total Quality Manager and is backed up by the Quality Technicians.
  • Orders all GMP and Lab supplies, as well as Sanitation and food additive chemicals.
  • Maintain a safe working environment to reduce injuries and workers compensation claims.
  • All other duties assigned.
Qualifications:
  • B.A. or B.S. in Food Science, related field, or five years of experience in the food industry
  • SQF Practitioner Certification
  • HACCP or PCQI Certified
  • A minimum of two years of experience in the food industry related to quality and production.
  • USDA-FSIS experience a plus.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
  • Must possess knowledge in the areas of GMPs, HACCP, sanitation procedures, food microbiology, and general food safety industry regulations.
  • Ability to review and correct documentation errors is a must.
  • Responsible, strong leadership, detail orientated, and organized.
  • Requires standing, walking, and sitting.
  • May be required to lift up to 55 pounds.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft office programs.
  • Must be proficient in operating laboratory equipment such as thermometers, pH meters, autoclaves, incubators, chemical strips, and other measuring devices.
