TRC Advanced Energy (TRC), a nationally known consultancy, is seeking a Research Analyst to join our Evaluation Team who will contribute to a wide range of research and analysis projects that support clean energy programs, technologies, and policies.

As a Research Analyst, you will work side by side with more experienced consulting staff to learn about the clean energy industry, learn new analytic skills, engage in sophisticated research projects, and participate in the evolution of our business. No project is the same, and you'll get exposure to lots of different types of work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Your role will include conducing both qualitative and quantitative research applied to a wide range of topic areas.

You will be joining our team at an exciting time, as we combine our long history supporting energy efficiency and demand response with teams focused on emerging tech, distributed energy resources, microgrids, storage, electrification, and resiliency. We are looking for a candidate who is excited to help chart this future with us.

The ideal candidate will be assertive, personable, and a self-starter, with the capacity to manage multiple tasks across multiple teams. This position requires the ability to communicate effectively and coordinate with internal technical team members and external customers. The preferred locations for this position are Seattle, WA, or Oakland, CA, but we are open to candidates nationwide.

**Remote position with location preferences in Seattle, WA and Oakland, CA.**

JOB DUTIES: Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Clean, analyze, and interpret quantitative data
  • Code, analyze, and interpret qualitative data
  • Design and conduct in-depth interviews
  • Design and implement surveys
  • Research policy and program designs
  • Complete literature reviews
  • Communicate research results via written reports and graphically
  • Synthesize information across multiple data sources
  • Translate results into actionable recommendations
Requirements:
  • Education:
    • Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) preferred, with a focus on Economics, Evaluation, Environmental Analysis, Sociology, Public Policy, Statistics, Environmental Engineering, or other relevant fields. Applicable clean energy and/or utility experience may substitute for applied research experience or an advanced degree.
  • Experience:
    • 1-2 years of experience conducting applied research.
  • Skills:
    • Thorough understanding of the fundamentals of research methods and design.
    • Enthusiasm for understanding perspectives of customers and other market actors.
  • Nice to Have:
    • Experience with utilities or the clean energy sector.
    • Tangible experience in consulting and/or market research.
    • Excellent writing and presentation skills.
    • Research experience with methods including surveys, data analysis, inferential statistics, segmentation, focus groups, field observations, ethnographic and anthropological research, usability testing, online qualitative research, or other structured research methods.
