Carney, Sandoe & Associates, an educational recruitment firm, is currently seeking an experienced School Counselor at a K-6 independent school in Los Angeles.
The school is seeking a School Counselor who will join a team of educators focused on the intellectual, physical, and emotional wellness of students. The school is committed to a child-centered, empathetic, strengths-based approach in which students develop healthy and caring relationships and a positive attitude toward learning. The School Counselor also serves as the point person for the Upper School (Grades 4-6) and provides support and interventions to students, develop social and emotional learning programs, and foster a culture of belonging. Teachers in each grade work as a close-knit team to support each other and collaborate on curriculum development. They pride ourselves on being a warm and welcoming inclusive community.
Responsibilities of the School Counselor:
- Develop relationships with students in Grades 4-6
- Attend regular department, faculty, and other meetings
- Promote an inclusive working and community environment
- help teachers interpret and incorporate recommendations from neuropsychological and psychoeducational evaluations, including by creating learning plans based on testing
- Plan and implement standardized assessments and analyze data to enhance and monitor student progress
- Are a resource to teachers as they plan and implement the curriculum and work closely with teachers to determine student needs and offer advice about ways teachers can best support students
- Offer consultation, insights, and strategies to address students’ social-emotional and behavioral needs
- Coordinate with outside providers and families to support student-related services
Requirements of the School Counselor:
- Certification, credential, and/or advanced degree in school psychology and/or counseling
- Minimum of 3 years working in a school setting
- Have substantial expertise in the field and will be: skilled in fostering persistent problem solving, knowledgeable about adolescents’ intellectual, social, and emotional development
- Knowledge of psychoeducational evaluation results and standardized testing
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
