Senior Collection Development Librarian
Job description
Our Collections and Technology Services division has an opening for a full-time, 100% FTE, Senior Collection Development Librarian. This position is part of a small team of librarians who are responsible for the management of the District's collection, working under the supervision of the Collection Manager. This opening will focus on the selection, weeding and distribution of nonfiction materials for our floating collection. The successful candidate will use statistical data and professional resources to monitor the needs of library patrons and to stay apprised of trends in children’s material. They will then work within a budget to maintain a collection in a manner that reflects both the needs of branches and the district as a whole. Common tasks include:
- Evaluate potential library materials available to buy for our nonfiction collection.
- Identify the needs of the community, branch and patrons to decide which titles to purchase; monitor expenditures in assigned areas.
- Determine how to distribute new materials to branches throughout the district.
- Utilize statistics to monitor usage and inform future selection decisions.
- Review materials that have been weeded from collection to determine items that fall into certain categories of discard, replace, or reassign.
- Attend meetings and participate in committees and/or organizations that further the library’s mission and goals; may manage or plan outreach and/or external partnership activities.
- Keep informed of current library, catalog and collection development practices by attending workshops and educational programs or reading specialized literature.
Schedule
The exact schedule will be set with input of the successful candidate. There is flexibility to set a recurring schedule that works 8 hours per day, Monday - Friday, between the hours of 8 am - 6pm.
Location
This position has the option to work remotely. There is space at our Operation Center to work onsite in Vancouver, WA.
Education & Experience
To be considered candidates must have:
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program or ability to obtain a Washington State certification upon hire.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience, including customer service experience.
- One to three years of supervisory experience or lead worker experience
Examples of relevant experience include, but are not limited to experiences that required you to have/do the following:
- Stay educated on the trends in nonfiction materials.
- The use of independent judgment and decision making.
- Think holistically and understand how decisions impact the organization’s goals.
- Manage a budget or other similar skills that require you to prioritize resources.
Compensation & Benefits
This position starts at $29.70 per hour. The full pay range is between $29.70 and $44.56 per hour.
We have an excellent benefit package. FVRLibraries covers 90-95% of full-time employees’ health insurance premium cost and 90-100% of dental insurance premium costs. In addition, we provide employees with Life Insurance, AD&D and Long-Term Disability Insurance at no cost to the employee. Employees have the ability to enroll in additional, voluntary insurance plans such as income protection plans (life insurance, voluntary AD&D, accident insurance, critical illness insurance), Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts.
Our employees enjoy 12 paid holidays throughout the year. Full time employees accrue 8 hours of sick leave per month. The initial vacation leave accrual is 11 hours per month; this increases over time based on years of employment. We also offer other types of paid time off for situations such as jury duty, bereavement leave, inclement weather and more.
