POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sr. Development Accountant position will oversee the contract administration process (involves input and tracking of development commitments, contracts and change orders into the accounting system along with the verification of invoice coding and approvals) as it relates to projects. The Development Accountant reports to the Sr. Manager, Development Accounting and will work closely with the Sr. Manager in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statement and the resolution and documentation of Divisional accounting issues and positions

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project Management

  • Manage contract commitments and change orders

  • Work with Senior Manager of Development Accounting and in monitoring and communicating actual project costs.

  • Work with Development Team in preparing cash forecast and analyzing actual expenses against commitments and budgets

  • Process invoices, check requests and wire transfers

  • Respond to vendor inquiries

  • Prepare monthly job costs reports for projects assigned

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget

  • Prepare for review loan draw packages

General Ledger Maintenance/Month End Close/Sox Requirements

  • Perform monthly close procedures related to assigned projects which includes but is not limited to preparing; journal entries, fixed asset additions, roll-forwards, reconciliations, variance analysis and audit schedules

  • Quarterly segment balance sheet and income statement variance analysis

  • Prepare monthly capitalized interest calculation and quarterly assist in the review and analysis of HHC’s capitalized interest calculation

Financial Reporting and Technical Research

  • Quarterly and annually assist in the preparation of 10Q and 10K by providing initial write up of MD&A, preparing supporting schedules and providing tie out package to Corporate

  • Work with Sr. Manager Development Accounting and Sr. Director to resolve and document Divisional Accounting issues and accounting positions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and SEC regulatory requirements.

Other Responsibilities

  • Work with Director of Development Accounting to lead key Divisional and Corporate initiatives such as implementing new accounting software or divisional policies.

  • Challenges and understands financial information so that issues are resolved and financial results are properly recorded and presented.

  • Special projects and other duties as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.

  • CPA preferred.

  • Minimum of 4-8 years of accounting experience required.

  • Real estate industry and Real Estate Development or Project Cost accounting experience.

  • Good understanding of accounting best practice processes for a publicly traded company.

  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and related products.

  • Experience with JDE and EBuilder.

  • A team player who has the ability to multi-task and is self-directed.

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail.

  • Must be deadline focused, organized and exhibit problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong technical writing skills.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.

  • Handle a dynamic work environment with competing priorities.
