Position Summary

The Senior Director of Rights and Responsibilities will provide day-to-day leadership and management of the Attendance, Code of Conduct, and ECAR (Equity, Advocacy & Civil Rights) departments, working under the leadership of the Executive Director for Student Affairs and Advocacy. An ideal candidate for this role is a visionary leader who understands the importance of holistic supports for attendance, behavior and civil rights that provide both high expectations and guardrails for students and families, as well as the accompanying wraparound supports that serve the full range of needs. This is a leader who believes that compliance and regulations form a necessary foundation and set of parameters to ensure student safety, but that a culture of support, wellness, care and student and family power - within those parameters - are critical to the success of our students and families. The Senior Director must also be an excellent project manager and leader - ensuring the operational quality of day-to-day implementation of programs and initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Must possess and provide evidence of a Bachelor's degree (or higher) from an institution accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools or an equivalent higher education agency

  • Master's Degree is preferred

Experience:

  • Mimumum of three (3) years of urban education experience, non-profit experience and/or foundation experience, including expertise in chronic absenteeism, code of conduct guidance for schools, restorative practices, Title IX and Civil Rights in K-12 settings.

  • At least 1-2 years of management experience supervising large teams and budgets, with clear experience providing management coaching and support to staff teams¿

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing workflows, managing resources, developing efficiencies

  • School administration experience preferred (Assistant Principal, Principal)

Essential Functions:

  • Visioning. Support the development and sustaining a vision for Student Affairs and Advocacy that promotes safe, healthy and joyful learning environments for students and their families. This includes serving as an inspirational and visionary leader to engage and ground the Division staff, other departments and schools in this shared vision.

  • Strategy. Develop and manage the implementation of a strategy to support the goals of the Division, including setting Objectives and Key Results, designing key initiatives, and identifying milestones and indicators of success.

  • Staff Management and Support. Day-to-day management of the staff of the Attendance, Code of Conduct, and Equity and Civil Rights departments, including managing daily operational tasks, providing coaching and guidance, and supporting the overall professional development of staff.

  • Implementation. Manage and monitor implementation of key initiatives under the Division of Student Affairs and Advocacy, including comprehensive end-to-end project management of initiatives and programs. This can range from one-time campaigns, such as event-based campaigns that promote a certain milestone, or ongoing strategies, such as coordination protocols for a given program.

  • Tracking, Monitoring and Evaluation. Rigorous tracking of key implementation milestones to ensure timely and effective completion of key tasks and implementation of initiatives. Lead and manage evaluation of outcomes to monitor the short- and long-term impact of key initiatives on attendance, behavioral, academic and social-emotional outcomes for children and their families.

  • Process Design and Development. In collaboration with the team, design, refine and implement processes that streamline the experience for students, families and staff to increase accountability, efficiency and customer service.

  • Facilitation. Facilitate meetings, strategy sessions, training sessions and other collaborative activities to co-design strategies, implementation plans, and collaborate toward shared objectives, goals and timelines.

  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration and Coordination. Facilitate collaboration with departments throughout the District, such as technology, data and assessment, exceptional student education and others to ensure alignment both on strategy and timeline, and on day-to-day implementation of key strategies.

  • School Coordination and Communication. Facilitate and manage coordination with schools, including training, ongoing support and customer service, to ensure a high degree of fidelity in the implementation of key initiatives by school staff.

  • Development of Materials. Develop memoranda, slide decks and other visual materials to support the implementation of key initiatives.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, Student Affairs & Advocacy.
