Job Description:
Maryland Environmental Service is looking for one Senior Environmental Specialist/Lead Environmental Specialist/Senior Lead Environmental Specialist (classification will be dependent on experience) to work part-time as needed to assist in supporting the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Environmental Review Program (ERP) office in Annapolis, MD.
Planned assignments include environmental reviews for Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) projects which may entail performing site field visits state-wide and work in various office locations including: the Millersville office of MES, the MD Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in Annapolis MD, or various MDOT offices throughout the State. The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), environmental permitting, and an ability to understand and evaluate how construction projects impact natural resources.
The initial effort for this position is planned to require between 10 and 20 hours per week but is not guaranteed for minimum hours and subject to change based on need. This is a technical position with no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Estimated Pay Range:
Senior ES: $24.00 - $31.00/hr
Lead ES: $29.00 - $38.00/hr
Sr Lead ES: $30.00 - $42.00/hr
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum education requirements for each classification include a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, ecology or a related field from an accredited college or university plus:

Senior Environmental Specialist - three years of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering, or management. One year of experience must have included responsibility managing environmental projects and providing leadership to other professional and technical staff.

Lead Environmental Specialist – five years of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering or management, two years of which must have included responsibility managing environmental projects and supervising environmental professional and technical staff.

Senior Lead Environmental Specialist – six years of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering or management, three years of which must have included responsibility managing environmental projects and supervising environmental professional and technical staff.
Applicants may substitute an applicable advanced education degree for up to two years of the required experience. Must have a valid driver's license with less than 5 points.
