Envision Your Experience
The Sr. Managing Editor, Blasts position takes a leading role in shepherding projects from conception to completion. The Sr. Managing Editor collaborates with Editors and Curriculum Designers to produce short journalistic articles five days a week. The Sr. Managing Editor position manages the entire Blasts editorial team, sets editorial priorities, and supervises the creative process from start to finish.
Position Type: This is a regular, full-time position.- Location: In this US-based position your location will be remote.
- Travel: You can also expect to travel up to 10%, so be sure you have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance and a clean driving record for at least the preceding 39 months.
- Compensation: Imagine Learning offers competitive total compensation, including incentive opportunities for regular employees.
- Drives the editorial process for daily content, ensuring that work published meets rigorous editorial standards and adheres to appropriate style guidelines for subject matter that covers a wide variety of topics, including science, pop culture, history, politics, diversity issues, literature, and the media.
- Supervise the team’s editorial calendar and completes top-level edits for all Blasts before they are published, serving as the highest-level editor for 500-700-word articles tailored to a student audience.
- Works with the Director of Curriculum to set priorities for Blasts and look for ways to integrate Blast content with other curricular projects.
- Direct the work duties of Curriculum Designers to develop, update and revise Blast content for ELA Core programs.
- Provides editorial feedback to writers and editors and sets and maintains a consistent tone and style for Blasts.
- Assistant Editors and Copy Editors as they pertain to daily content publication.
- Independently develop and direct the creation of original content on tight deadlines.
- Develop article assignments for freelancers that lay out article specifications and outlines research links to articles/resources that freelancers should consult during development.
- Manage and track assignments to freelancers and edit their work for publication.
- Work with the Senior Editor and Curriculum Designers to develop, update and revise Blast content access programs.
- Other duties as required.
Share Your Expertise
Experience, education, and qualifications essential for success in this role, include:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, social sciences, and 5+ years of experience; or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- Excellent writing, grammatical, and editing skills.
- Strong organizational skills with a detail-oriented approach.
- Strong understanding of publishing tools.
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum design and instruction.
