Our services include engineering, information and technology support, application development and support, network operations, network surveillance, facilities maintenance, procurement, and warehousing.
JOB SUMMARY

The IP Network Engineer II is a position of significant relevant technical experience and is responsible for contributing to designs, project planning, testing, documentation, and the overall technical vision of all network infrastructures and supporting systems. The IP Network Engineer II is largely focused on the planning and implementation of network maintenance activities, leading project efforts, and supporting the integration and implementation of new technologies. The IP Network Engineer II is considered a “specialist” on the platforms and business units served in addition to having practical knowledge of network principles and an advanced level of knowledge of Service Provider network technologies.
The IP Network Engineer II reports directly to the Manager of Network and Systems Engineering.
There are no direct reports to this position.
The IP Network Engineer II regularly interfaces with the following departments and outside sources: Shared Services Technical resources & NOC, Telesystem Technical staff, Buckeye Broadband Technical staff, MaxxSouth Technical staff, Equipment & Software vendors, and Large Enterprise Customers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The IP Network Engineer II is accountable for the following items for the business units served by Shared Services:

  • Taking a lead role on special projects as assigned by the Systems and Network Engineering Manager.
  • Demonstrate advanced level knowledge of fiber technologies, Layer 2 & Layer 3 VPNs, Inter-provider ethernet services, voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructures, and other essential services.
  • Develop, publish and maintain appropriate documentation of physical & logical topologies, network specifications and all necessary support and maintenance procedural documents.
  • Maintaining physical data center environments including, racking and cabling servers, diagnosing faults, submitting RMA, and replacing hardware.
  • Ensure network related problems and outages are responded to and resolved in accordance with relevant SLAs "service level agreements”.
  • Research and identify technology opportunities and their application to the business.
  • Defining and enforcing network standards and policies across the organization.
  • Act as a point of technical escalation within the department.
  • Apply working knowledge of network monitoring and other network administration tools.
  • Ensure the security of the company’s facilities against all unsolicited and unauthorized access, including DDoS based attacks.
  • Serve in a support role capacity to internal business units such as Marketing, Product Development, and Customer Service staff on customer IP network issues and capabilities.
  • Work to ensure that technical competencies are kept up to date with industry direction & standards.
  • Acquire and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all equipment and software employed to deliver IP services.
  • Perform routine maintenance and administrative functions on all company-owned IP-network equipment and transport facilities.
  • Make recommendations for network architecture changes independently and without prompting based upon current and future needs.
  • Participating in the department’s on-call rotation.
  • Follow and enforce the Company’s policies and procedures, including the EEO guidelines and safety, at all times.
  • Perform other duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Educational and Professional Experience Requirements

  • Associate degree with a major in IT, WAN/LAN, Telecommunications, Engineering or related technical degree and 5+ years of relevant Service Provider IP network technical experience. – Required

-OR-

  • 10+ years of Service Provider IP network operational or design experience in lieu of a degree. – Required

-AND-

  • High School Diploma or GED - Required
  • Valid Professional level certification from Cisco or Juniper. – Required
  • Certification must be kept current.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in IT, Telecommunications, Engineering or related degree and 4 - 6 years of Service Provider IP network technical experience – Highly Preferred
