Why this job matters:
Work independently to identify market opportunities, evaluate product concepts, and lead key product development projects and initiatives from concept through design, launch, and implementation, with ongoing ownership to drive penetration and ramp-up. Work closely with market research, sales, clinical management, actuarial, underwriting, customer advisory groups, and external advisors and consultants to monitor external trends develop strategies to address. Navigate dynamic regulatory environment to improve customer offerings and maintain strong compliance with government programs. Identify Medicare customer segment needs, desires, and value perceptions. Monitor product success metrics and profitability of product lines. Maintain a strong partnership with market-facing teams to ensure pre-sales efforts are effective and launch performance exceed forecasts.

What you will do:
  • Analyze Medicare segment market trends and consumer preferences for covered populations to identify product development opportunities. Develop product lifecycles and implement strategies to grow the Medicare market segment in support of BCBSRI’s strategic priorities.
  • Develop and oversee new product initiatives through design, launch, implementation and ongoing product management. Monitor profitability of assigned product lines and adjust strategies to ensure financial performance targets are met.
  • Conduct analysis to identify customer needs, desires, and value perceptions for assigned product lines to help support and strengthen member engagement with our plan and services. Develop strong understanding of Medicare segments developed through customer assessments, assisting the enterprise with understanding and action to address customer needs.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and adhere to CMS regulations impacting product design and launch. Collaborate cross-functionally to address regulation impacts.
  • Partner and understand annual Medicare product filing requirements. Ensure product designs address financial and bid requirements, and compliance requirements.
  • Define organizational and product strategies to support business segment, sales, and profitability objectives; leverage strategies to identify and evaluate opportunities. Monitor industry, customer segment, and competitive trends to help support strategies that exceed the current marketplace.
  • Create a pipeline of new product and revenue opportunities within assigned product line(s)
  • Work with internal areas to develop annual forecasts and targets for assigned product line(s).
  • Develop sound business proposals that include costs of the solution, target markets, expected return on investment. Effectively present business proposals to various levels of management throughout the organization.
  • Develop short- and long-term marketing plans for product line(s) outlining key activities related to product development, sales distribution, pricing, strategic partnerships, and other key areas as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
What you need to succeed:
  • A combination of education and related experience
  • Five to seven years of experience in product development/management or vendor management
  • Proven experience interpreting industry trends and customer needs to identify and build new product offering
  • Drives growth, go-to-market strategy, target client strategies; serves as product expert
  • Strong growth orientation and "customer" mindset
  • Ability to structure and manage substantial projects / initiatives
  • Vendor management experience
  • Complete familiarity with product management life cycle and associated concepts regarding analytics, communications and product design

Location:
BCBSRI is headquartered in downtown Providence, conveniently located near the train station and bus terminal. We actively support associate well-being and work/life balance and offer the following schedules, based on role:
  • In-office: onsite 5 days per week
  • Hybrid: onsite 2-4 days per week
  • Remote: onsite 0-1 days per week. Permitted to reside in the following states, pending approval from the Human Resources Department: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Virginia
