We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer/Architect to help us modernize a complex modeling and simulation (M&S) capability and to improve its performance, reliability, maintainability, and usability for communications analysts and helping solve the nation's security challenges.
As a member of our team, you will be responsible for the design, development, integration, and test of a high-fidelity communications software M&S capability. As a Senior Software Engineer/Architect, your primary responsibilities will be to:
- Lead the development and re-architecture of a M&S capability for strategic communications.
- Create and implement the architecture strategy in collaboration in-house subject matter experts.
- Apply methodologies to identify, analyze, and synthesize the architecture, elements, and allocations, and ensure they satisfy the requirements.
- Collaborate with members of the team to understand, identify, and describe the relationships, interdependencies, and interfaces between the weapon system and external elements, as well as internally to the system.
- Analyze the current M&S capability, identify, define, and document critical attributes of the physical system elements including core simulation, user interface, and data access components, and re-architect to increase performance, reliability, maintainability and usability.
- Develop and analyze the architecture to ensure the system provides the functionality and performance required by analysts and warfighters.
- Participate in the full software life cycle; defining requirements, architecting processing flow, developing algorithms, integrating with experimental hardware, and testing.
- Research and experiment with new programming technologies and explore creative new applications for software technologies.
- Investigate applicability of different types of software techniques for non-traditional applications (such as Unity3D and gaming technologies for use in data visualization).
- Provide thought leadership in the areas of communications systems and application software development by teaming with colleagues to propose creative approaches and new concepts to address hard problems.
- Work with other software developers to apply best software development principles to projects.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or another related, technical discipline.
- Have at least ten years of relevant experience in the development of large, complex software systems in both Windows and Linux environments.
- Have experience leading large software projects and managing teams of software developers.
- Demonstrated skill with software development following current software engineering best practices using several of the following languages: C, C++, Python, Java, JavaScript, C#, Typescript, and BASH scripting.
- Have a strong understanding of modern software development practices and tools, including: version control systems (e.g., Git), issue trackers, and test frameworks.
- Strong communication and critical thinking skills and demonstrated system level thinking in the architecting and development and analysis of complex systems.
- Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment technologies.
- Experience with system architecting software, especially model based systems engineering tools like Cameo/Magic Draw.
- Have excellent interpersonal skills, work independently, and work in a multi-organizational team.
- Are able to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

- Possess a Master 's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or another related, technical discipline.
- Have at least fifteen years of relevant experience in the development of large, complex software systems in both Windows and Linux environments.
- Have systems engineering experience with large, complex systems, including architectural analysis.
- Experience with wrangling many containerized services
- Experience with multiple flavors of Linux
- Full-stack experience
- Have exposure to US Government and military communication systems and technologies.
- Have experience and passion for DevOps practices, processes, and tools.
- Have experience using modern front-end and back-end software frameworks for software applications.
- Have experience applying software expertise to full project life-cycles, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, and testing.
- Have knowledge of the network layer and above of communication or networking systems.
- Hold an active Top Secret security clearance.
