HybridWe are seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to join our software development team. This position is responsible for leading the team in the development and sustainment of software programs related to the creation of publication and training products for Collins Aerospace. In this role we are looking for an individual who can research, design, develop, test, debug, deploy, and maintain application software. Additionally, this position is responsible for addressing user inquiries that arise during day-to-day operations, documenting system changes, and using informed independent judgment to make decisions.
Candidates must be a commutable distance from Cedar Rapids, IA to work a hybrid schedule reporting on-site as needed. Relocation assistance available provided if offered candidate meets eligibility requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead the requirements, design, development and testing of application software, and tools, to include development of new work products or enhancement of existing applications and systems.
- Develop/modify applications based on functional specification, investigate and understand new technologies, conduct unit-tests, code review and performance monitoring.
- Designs and builds changes, extensions, and enhancements to existing application programs and reports.
- Designs and develops integrations between applications using application programming interfaces.
- Provides patches and upgrades to existing systems.
- Perform debugging and integration of software components as part of the solution delivery lifecycle process.
- Supports data migration, data conversion, data loading, and performance improvement of information.
- Prepares operating instructions and compiles documentation of program development.
- Serves as project or technical lead for complex projects with varying degrees of flexibility for approach.
- Capable of proactively identifying and communicating technical software issues and help resolve these issues. Ensure these issues are elevated to project leadership for resolution.
- Participating in cross-functional team efforts in definition, integration, verification and validation for products and sub-systems of moderate to high complexity.
- Reviewing software defects, business trends, identify systemic root causes and process improvements and recommend new approaches, tools, techniques that drive continuous improvements in software development processes.
- Provides technical direction/guidance to other team members.
- Ability to analyze complex business problems to be solved with automated systems and provides technical expertise in identifying, evaluating and developing systems and procedures that are cost effective and meet user requirements.
- Works with users to support business applications and investigating operational problems/system requirements.
- Provides exploratory/discovery consulting services to internal customers.
- Contribute to software engineering requirements capture and analysis in area of domain expertise. Able to identify cross-functional deficiencies in requirements.
- Translate business needs into technical requirements. Has system-wide responsibility on moderately complex projects and components.
- Estimating project resource requirements for multi-developer projects.
- Ability to develop engineering estimates for Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) and Bid proposals, using applicable enterprise estimation tools, for components and area of expertise.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
- Java (SE, Spring Framework exposure)
- Web (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Angular exposure)
- Server administration (Tomcat [emphasis on administering load balanced servers], SSL, third-party application installation)
- Database administration (SQL, VB.net experience)
- PTC experience (Arbortext Editor, Print Engine, and Styler)
- O365 experience (SharePoint and Lists)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Markup (XML, XSL[T], XSL-FO)
- Server (MS Server, [Tomcat, PHP, SQL] )
- Software Requirements Management (DOORS, Jama, Jira)
- Spring Boot and Microservice Architecture
- DTD/FOSI experience
- Experience leading a software development team
- Keen knowledge of data structures and algorithms, systems software design, operating systems, architectures, software development life cycle and processes
- Experience developing software in a team-based development environment, preferably Agile and test automation
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, including ability to produce technical documentation, and the desire to learn new technologies and tools.
- Prior experience is preferred
