Job Purpose: You are a supportive and communicative team member who implements behavior modification programs and provide behavioral support to shelter animals. You provide the guidance needed to determine placement and outcomes to frontline staff, supervisors, and managers.
Pay: $19.50/hour
Schedule: Full-time; Sunday - Thursday (Friday & Saturday off)
Location: This position will primarily be working on site at our Golden Valley, MN site with some travel throughout the week to our Woodbury, MN and Coon Rapids, MN locations.
What you will be doing:
Animal Care — Complete behavior examinations for animals that need behavior support to identify behaviors for intervention. Place animals as appropriate in behavior modification program and provide recommended placement and outcome.
Customer Service — Assist and support with questions and concerns about shelter animal behavior.
Communication — Listen, pay attention, and be a responsible steward of information.
Continuous Improvement — Implement programs to enrich the animal’s environment, to prevent problem behaviors, and to improve their adoptability.
Support — Assist in the identifying target areas, developing, and implementing behavior modification programs. Complete program evaluations, data collection, entry, analysis, preparation, and presentation as needed. Assist in development and implementation of ongoing training for volunteers as well as other shelter staff
Culture — Foster an open and inclusive work environment by modeling AHS’s behaviors and values, consistent with the vision and mission of the organization. Champion a culture of safety and promote meaningful volunteer engagement.

What we are looking for:
Schedule — Regular, predictable attendance, punctuality, and availability to work during operational hours as defined by leadership with the expectation to work varied hours including evening and weekend shifts.
Experience — Minimum of 2 years of shelter or behavior modification experience required. Must possess knowledge of common behavior problems in companion animals, as well as learning theory.
Computer Skills — Proficient with computers, specifically, a working knowledge of Microsoft products.
Adaptability — Ability to work in a professional and positive manner with high attention to detail in a variety of situations and the willingness to assist at other sites.
Communication — Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, must have ability to work as a team member and partner collaboratively with external and internal customers and departments.
Physical & Emotional Capabilities — Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment. Must be able to make recommendations for euthanasia when appropriate. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Must have a high level of resiliency.
Transportation — Dependable transportation required.
