The Associated Press seeks a talented video producer and newsroom manager who is creative, passionate about experimentation and interested in helping to lead our growing team of diverse journalists focused on digital audiences. We’re looking for an editor with a deep understanding of how video travels on social media to direct a team of social video producers who will develop video content that helps grow our audience on social platforms and guides news consumers to APNews.com.

Responsibilities:
In this role, you will be based in New York and report to the deputy director of digital news for audience development and new platforms. You will build and lead a team of social video producers who create video news designed specifically to engage, inform and entertain audiences on social media platforms. Your team’s top priority will be to create video news that’s designed for sharing on social media – videos that connect with audiences online by being informative, visually stunning and entertaining. That includes live video from major events such as awards shows and political speeches, as well as the daily flow of breaking news. You will help develop and share best practices in social video among AP’s news gathering and production teams around the world. As an AP journalist, you’ll also have the ability and willingness to work at night and on weekends as coverage demands.

Qualifications:
We’re looking for a digital or video native who has a solid base of experience leading a team that knows how to tell stories on social media – YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Facebook, Twitch and beyond. You’ll have a great news sense and know how to coach a team to create the video news that consumers will want to share, like and talk about on social media. That includes the ability to package and optimize video content for each social platform, including developing strategic campaigns for each. You should be able to spot opportunities to make AP’s exclusive and distinctive video news shine on social media, applying best practices for social content, search engine and social media optimization. We need teammates who can work swiftly and accurately under tight deadlines, and plan and complete short- and long-term projects with their colleagues.

We’re looking for a newsroom leader who:
has experience in social video production, with an understanding of Adobe Premiere, After Effects and Photoshop, as well as Canva and other similar tools.
can quickly become conversant with every aspect of AP’s all formats news report.
has strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams of journalists and designers at the AP who operate in all formats: text, photo, video, audio, digital/social, interactive and graphics.
pursue innovative and inclusive techniques while maintaining AP’s standards for integrity and objectivity.

Other qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, such as at least five years of full-time work as an editor, reporter or producer at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet or AP bureau.

Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English. Professional competency in a language besides English is a plus.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $85,500 - $120,000 contingent on experience and other job-related factors. Employees are eligible to participate, according to the terms of the official plan documents, in a 401(k) plan, employer-sponsored health insurance plan, and are eligible for paid time off and holidays in accordance with AP policy.
