Qualifications:

• Valid degree from an accredited college or university
• Current Washington State Teaching Certificate with endorsements in Special Ed and Secondary Grade Levels
• Meet IDEA definition of Highly Qualified designation for Special Education and for areas of core instruction
• Have or can obtain clearance from Washington State Patrol and FBI background check

Preferred Qualifications:

• Training and experience in working with students with disabilities
• Experience in Lifeskill programming for students with developmental disabilities in addition to school-age children
• Possesses knowledge of child development and learning styles. Ability to assist in planning curriculum aligned with the CCSS

Knowledge and Abilities:

• Range of appropriate instructional strategies to meet the needs of students.
• Knowledge to plan for students with modifications, accommodations, and diversified instructional strategies.
• Knowledge of pertinent special education regulations and laws.
• Possesses knowledge of appropriate behavioral intervention techniques and supports.
• Demonstrate constructive and effective communication skills, both verbal and written, and work effectively with students, parents and cohorts.

• Develop individual student learning plans and plan a program of study that as much as possible meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.

• Assess needs of students, using appropriate diagnostic measures

• Develop and maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to effective learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

• Use instructional programs that provide appropriate instruction to children with disabilities.

• Consult with teachers, staff and parents about needs and services for students with disabilities

• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

• Maintain timely manner, accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District Policy, and administrative regulations.

• Support students to participate as independently as possible in the least restrictive environment.
• Attend staff meetings, department meetings and serve on building committees as required.
• Work to establish open lines of communication with administration, fellow teachers, parents, and students.
• Maintain a positive attitude, good work ethic, and demonstrate promptness in work arrival and in accomplishing all tasks.
• Perform other necessary and reasonable duties as assigned.
