Job Description

Position: Sports Assistant Home Location: Adrian L. Shuford, Jr. YMCA
Reports To: Program Director Classification: PT, Non-Exempt

General Function:
The Adrian L. Shuford Jr. YMCA is looking for a dynamic, hardworking and enthusiastic individual who would like the opportunity to work with a team of people to make a positive difference in the life of children in sports department. This individual would be responsible for assisting in the planning, developing, and execution of all programs offered in the sports department. Must be reliable and a positive role model and consistent with Christian mission and the policies set forth by the YMCA of Catawba Valley.

Hours/Days: Expected during programming hours, Monday – Friday, Saturday and some

Sundays.

Qualifications:

• Must be 18 years of age, have high school diploma or GED.
• Must be fun loving, kid focused, and hardworking.
• Possess a current NC driver’s license.
• Previous experience and knowledge in the specific sports of soccer, baseball, flag football, volleyball, and basketball is preferred.
• Supervisory experience preferred.

Principal Activities:

• Assist in planning, developing, and execution of all programs offered in the Sports Dept.
• Basic understanding of fiscal management and budget process.
• CPR and First Aid Certifications must be obtained (provided by the YMCA).
• Must be able to supervise other sports staff and referees in a mature, respectful and professional manner.
• Must have strong oral and written communication skills with volunteers, members, and parents.
• Assist in completion of game schedules for all sports.
• Help with obtaining sponsors for Annual Giving Campaign.
• Lead summer sports camps.
• Preparing coach/parent packets for teams in each sport.
• In charge of any printing of schedules or registration forms and possible delivery of.
• In charge of marketing and displaying sports info within the Y branch.
• Communicate in a positive manner with coaches, refs, and participant’s families at all times.

Safety Policy:

The Sports Assistant will be responsible for observing the following rules:

• No alcohol or drugs will be used on the job at any time.
• Report all job accidents the same day the accident happens.
• Obtain authorization from your supervisor for all non-emergency treatments for accidents.
• Wear seat belts at all times in company vehicles.

• Keep the area where you work clean and neat at all times.
• Do not remove or bypass any guards on any machinery at any time.
• Ask your supervisor when you need additional equipment or instructions to get the job done safely.
• Lift with your legs, not your back, and get assistance with loads over 50 pounds.
• Advise your supervisor of any hazardous conditions.
• Follow all other written and spoken safety rules.

Effect on End Result:
The Sports Assistant represents the YMCA in a professional, courteous, friendly, and helpful manner to the program participants. This individual will provide a safe, clean, caring environment for all YMCA program participants.

Introductory Period:
A 90-day review will be conducted after the employee start date. The purpose of such an initial introductory period is to provide an opportunity for both the YMCA of Catawba Valley and the new employee to assess their respective satisfaction and suitability to the job.
