A new cannabis company based in West Los Angeles is seeking to hire a highly motivated Staff accountant.


POSITION SUMMARY

We are currently looking to hire a Staff Accountant to work closely with operational, accounting, and finance personnel. The Staff Accountant will have significant responsibility for ensuring the accuracy of the inventories recorded in our operational and financial statements. This individual will also be analyzing and reporting the profitability of our products. The Staff Accountant will assist in the month-end closing process and the preparation of financial statements and analyses. The job scope also includes other aspects of accounting and work on various projects as directed.


KEY JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Review costs for labor, material, and overhead; establish and periodically update standard costs for all products; ensure they are up-to-date and accurately reflect manufacturing costs.
  • Analyze gross margins for products/product categories and respond to questions about financial performance.
  • Analyze and explain monthly manufacturing variances.
  • Respond to questions about expenses, trends, and deviations from budgets/forecasts.
  • Assist in coordinating physical inventories and reviewing cycle count results.
  • Evaluate reserves for excess and obsolete inventories and compile biological asset data and related entries.
  • Work seamlessly with manufacturing, distribution, and cultivation; assist with special analyses and financial support as required.
  • Review/prepare journal entries related to cost of goods sold and inventories, as well as other accounts as assigned
  • Reconcile assigned accounts and review general ledger accounts and financial statements for accuracy during month-end close.
  • Assist in the preparation of trend analyses and other management reports.
  • Assist in preparing information for outside auditors.
  • Assist other areas in Finance/Accounting as needed.
  • Work on special projects as requested.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE + QUALIFICATIONS

Educational requirements or job experience that is necessary to perform the job are as follows:

  • Minimum 3 years previous cost accounting experience in manufacturing, agriculture, food, or consumer packaged goods experience is a plus.
  • Accounting degree, or degree in a business-related major with an emphasis in accounting, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) related to cost accounting and experience with various month-end close responsibilities.
  • Professional discretion and the ability to handle sensitive information professionally and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to research discrepancies and solve problems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Prior experience with ERP systems and MRP processes.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and work independently with limited supervision.
  • Good planning and organizational skills to balance and prioritize workload.
  • Comfortable working in a rapid-growth, dynamic environment. Must be a versatile, flexible individual to “wear many hats” in a growing organization.

  • Cannabis industry experience is not a prerequisite. While we would welcome such experience, we are equally interested in those with significant compliance experience in a highly regulated industry
  • Strong quantitative analysis and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to excel in a fast-paced changing environment
  • Team player who works extremely well in a collaborative environment
  • Demonstrate the highest professional and personal standards; has unquestioned integrity and business ethics; an objective, independent, mature, unbiased individual
  • Ability to work independently and proactively
