Greater Whittier Young Life is seeking a new full-time staff associate position. Our history in Whittier goes back to the late 50s. Our community knows that Young Life loves Jesus, kids and Whittier. Young Life relaunched in Greater Whittier in 2019 with a strong support from the community. There are 5 comprehensive high schools and 2 continuation high schools in Whittier totaling just over 10,000 students. Our focus right now is building up Young Life in Whittier with several active ministries and then proceeding to the surrounding cities. The Greater Whittier Young Life area includes Whittier, Santa Fe Springs, Pico Rivera and Hacienda Heights.

Whittier is a family oriented community on the border of Los Angeles County and Orange County. Community members have a deep pride for the city of Whittier. Whittier is in Los Angeles County, about 12 miles southeast of the City of Los Angeles. The City covers 14.8 square miles and has an estimated population of 87,369 as of January 1, 2018.

We are seeking a creative individual with administration skills and a passion for the arts to minister to at risk youth in the community. We highly recommend living in Whittier to grow the ministry. Becoming involved in the community with schools, churches, businesses, nonprofits and the Chamber of Commerce is necessary to foster a zeal for the peace of Whittier. Specific opportunities include the development of an Arts-Initiative Program with high school students and supporting volunteer leaders to take Young Life to the next level. This is an exciting new chapter with a team committed and ready to multiply and build new ministries to reach even more young people with the invitation of life with Jesus!

Note: Because of the missionary nature of this role, personal fundraising is required as a part of the employment process. Additionally, there is not an option for this role to be remote and are expected to live in Whittier or within 10 miles. Please ask if you have any further questions.

Responsibilities:

Spiritual Development – Creating and leading a spiritually healthy environment in which all those connected to Young Life grow in their faith.

Leadership Development – Recruiting, training and supporting a team of volunteers to serve as leaders and committee members.

Resource Development/Fundraising – Raising personal support as well as partnering with the committee to raise budgeted revenue.

• Raising personal support from the employees' network.
• Working with the committee on area support/fundraising events.

Direct Ministry – “Proclaiming and modeling” includes contact work, club, Campaigners and camp. Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.

Ministry Support – Work with the local committee to build community connections and support the overall organization of the area. Practice excellence in administration and communication.

Training – This person will report to the regional director and will be expected to participate in regional and national training events.

Qualifications:

• A deep and growing faith in Jesus.
• A call to reach students with the Gospel.
• Proven leadership skills.
• Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
• Recent youth ministry experience (seventh through 12th grade).
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Completion of a college degree preferred.
• Completion of Young Life Staff Associate training preferred or another relevant training equivalent.
• Willingness to raise personal financial support
