Job description

Developing a robust protein production pipeline will be instrumental in providing the key reagents needed to implement the fastest, cleanest, and most accurate DNA synthesis system in the world. As a Scientist in the Protein Production team, you will have the exciting opportunity to transition our protein production from research to pilot scale and beyond. You’ll establish the tools needed for this transition, have the exciting opportunity to take part in a transition from research to , build a team to support the work, establish tools, systems and protocols to increase production of our key reagents.

If you get goosebumps scaling up processes to generate gobs of highly pure, functional proteins, then we want to hear from you!

Responsibilities

  • Design, onboard equipment for, and implement scale-up of lysis, homogenization, clarification, chromatographic purification, and final buffer exchange to produce gram-scale batches of high quality, pure protein
  • Innovate on currently implemented downstream processes to drive down costs, decrease time of production, and improve purity and yield
  • Use experienced judgment to guide decision making regarding pipeline development as it relates to cost-benefit analysis, operational and technical capabilities

  • Experience with lysis using high shear techniques (eg. Microfluidizer), clarification (depth filtration or continuous flow centrifugation), column packing (eg. AxiChrom, BPG, INdEX), protein purification (AKTA FPLC, various chromatographic steps), and buffer exchange (TFF) at gram-level scale, with sub-kilogram level scale preferred
  • Experience with microbial expression systems
  • Experience managing 100+L scale buffer preparation a plus
  • Experience with quality control assays a plus
  • Experience with high density microbial fermentation a plus
