Standardized patients are personnel who assist in the education of students in the Simulation Learning Center. Standardized patients are people without actual symptoms who are trained to consistently portray a character who has the symptoms of a particular health condition. Standardized patients are scheduled as needed in the simulation center for particular times and dates.

Who We Are:

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is one of four campuses in the University of Colorado system and is home to over 9,000 undergraduate and 1,800 graduate students. Job Duties:

  • Portray the physical findings of particular disease states or procedures. This may include wearing makeup, costumes and/or external props such as casts, bandages or tubes (that do not enter the body).
  • Play a particular character with mannerisms and responses consistent with the described role. These may be ad lib or scripted as determined by the case author.
  • Observe and recall student communication and performance during the case scenario.
  • Provide feedback on student performance either directly or as requested during post-scenario debriefing.
  • Review other Standardized Patient performances and provide feedback for quality improvement purposes.

Job Competencies:

  • Demonstrate ability and willingness to work cooperatively with learners, other Standardized Patients, faculty, and staff.
  • Demonstrate ability to be instructed by a Program Leader and/or Trainer and portray cases and/or teach and assess skills consistently.
  • Willingness to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrate flexiblity and reliability with scheduling and assignments.
  • Pass a University required background check.
  • May need to fit certain age, gender, race, and ethnic attributes as the position dictates.
  • Basic computer skills, to include ability to navigate emails, employee portals and systems, and online video communication tools (such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.)

Work Location: On-site

Remote work will be available for emergency events. This will be offered based on the emergency and allowance will come from leadership and the guidelines provided at the time of the emergency.

This position has been determined to be eligible for overtime (non-exempt) under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

What We Offer:

Salary Range: $17.00 per hour

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Tentative Search Timeline:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Work experience in healthcare or experience as a patient.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move. Employee is occasionally required to have long periods of sitting, moderate bending, moderate energy requirements and fine motor skills. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
