Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222, but may be commensurate with education or work experience.


Role Overview
:

This job requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Nutrition, Dietetics, or Nursing or related field, with a strong preference for an RD credential. This role must be a lactation expert, preferably with current International Bord Certified Lactation Consultant licensure. This role supervises staff, makes program decisions based on federal regulations and state policies, and requires extensive knowledge of the principles, standards, and practices of lactation, nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, and public health.

The position is responsible for managing the Indiana WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program. Incumbent is responsible for developing and adhering to policies and procedures for peer counselor monitoring and support. Incumbent serves as training content expert for the Peer Counselor program. The position is also responsible for collaborating with WIC staff to complete tasks essential to increasing breastfeeding initiation and duration rates among WIC participants.

About the Job:

As the Public Health Administrator, you will be responsible for providing leadership to the Department through planning, directing, organizing and coordinating activities related to a public health program area.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Formulate and interpret all policies and procedures related to a public health program.
  • Develop public health program plans relative to assigned program area, implement changes and evaluates effectiveness of on-going programs.
  • Develop a variety of complex statistical and narrative reports identifying program trends and needs.
  • Maintain management information systems related to program area identifying computerization needs and expansion recommendations.
  • Participate in and/or coordinates grant writing efforts and manages related budgets.
  • Serve as primary agency liaison regarding public health program area, working closely with associated federal, state and local agencies and partners to ensure that program objectives are modified and updated as needs dictate.

  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

What You'll Need for Success:

This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Broad knowledge of public health theories, principles, practices, and strategies.
  • Broad knowledge of program area including current and changing state and federal laws.
  • Considerable knowledge of the organization and function of state and local health agencies.
  • Specialized knowledge of public health laws governing state and local health jurisdictions.
  • Specialized knowledge of program planning and implementation techniques.
  • Ability to communicate complex public health theories and principles Both orally and in writing.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Word, Excel, or Access.
  • Ability to coordinate and maintain effective working relationships with other local, state, and federal agency staff.

  • abilty to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
