Qualifications, Experience and Abilities:
· As a prerequisite, the successful candidate must believe in the core values and philosophy of St. Augustine Society, Inc. and be driven by the mission of the organization with a commitment to working with persons in housing crisis and disconnected populations
· Minimum High School Diploma or GED required
· Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Human Services related field
· Two years’ experience working in Human Services working with one or more of the following: individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health related issues, substance abuse, domestic violence, and with those living in poverty preferred
· Valid Florida Driver’s License required
· Possesses strong writing, reading, listening and speaking communication skills
· Possesses well-developed decision-making skills and attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
· Possesses excellent time management skills and the ability to work with minimum supervision
· Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries in working with clients
· Ability to transport individuals as needed, and travel to various sites and locations daily
· Possesses a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential agency, client, donor, and employee information
· Ability to multi-task and remain calm in demanding and unpredictable situations
· Ability to develop rapport, provide information, and refer with sensitivity to cultural issues
and interact face-to-face with homeless individuals of diverse backgrounds and disabilities, including physical, mental, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, etc.
· Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds independently for extended periods
· Demonstrates a positive attitude, self-motivation, organization, and resourcefulness while maintaining a reputation through proven action of being team and client oriented and willing to assist where/when needed
· Ability to assess emergency situations and respond effectively
· Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel required. Experience with other applications as well as experience using and entering data into HMIS or other client databases preferred
· Able to meet a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends
· Must pass Level II background check
· Must pass drug screen
· Must be prompt and dependable
Street Outreach worker responsibilities
· Provides direct care social services to unsheltered homeless clients
· Identifies encampments and gathering spots of homeless persons
· Engages clients in a service oriented relationship with the goal of ending their street homelessness
· Determines clients’ requirements by completing interviews; determining need for service connection and support to successfully access housing alternative to streets
· Drive the agency outreach van while conducting outreach as part of a two-person team
· Act as a link between target population and agency staff and programs
· Provides service linkages and advocacy for support systems to ensure identified needs are met
· Delivers services with safety, respect and effectiveness
· Enforces agency policies and follows staff policies and procedures
· Provides immediate and professional response to any security/safety emergency or disturbance
· Maintains clients’ records by reviewing case notes; logging events and progress
· Maintains written and oral communication of incidents in accordance with policies
· Develops and maintains excellent working relationships with community partners
· Works with the Director of Programs and Operations to ensure service delivery is consistent with current evidenced-based and best-practice models
· Assists the Director of programs and operations in ensuring accurate data is collected to support grant applications
· Reports any problems to the Outreach Coordinator
· Attends staff meetings and participates in activities designated by the Director of Programs and Operations/Executive Director
· Performs all other duties as assigned
