Under general supervision, performs routine street maintenance work. FLSA status: Non-Exempt.

Performs routine graffiti abatement that includes painting, sandblasting, pressure washing, and using caustic agents. Equipment used in the abatement process will include a portable air compressor, spray guns, paint mixers, PPE (personal protective equipment), etc. Interacts with the public including gaining authorization from property owners to abate graffiti.
Provides and installs safety barricades and traffic controlling devices around construction areas and special events; installs, replaces, and maintains City owned traffic signage; makes new signs as needed; assists with inventory inspection process associated with streets, sidewalks, drainages, rights-of-way and traffic signs; evaluates conditions of concrete curb and street pavement; operates loaders, backhoes, asphalt "boot" truck, striping equipment, dump trucks, and asphalt rollers; repairs and replaces traffic control devices. Assists with maintaining traffic signals, streetlights, and parking lot lights. Assists with installing traffic counters and participating in Public Works Outreach Programs that educate the public on street maintenance and traffic control programs. Work with Arizona Department of Corrections inmates. Other duties as assigned. This position is subject to standby and emergency call outs.
Knowledge of:
Job tasks expected to be performed, including the standards of workmanship required in assigned work field.
Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) on cleaning solvents and chemicals.
Occupational hazards and appropriate safety practices to apply and enforce.
General construction methods and practices, including equipment use and maintenance associated with asphalt pavements and concrete.
The general principles, practices, methods, and materials used in public works street maintenance and repair work.
Skill in:
Operating vehicles, mechanical equipment, and heavy equipment including loaders, dump trucks, "boot" trucks, and backhoes.
Following and carrying out oral and written instructions.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.
Operating and maintaining assigned power tools and equipment.
Working outdoors in all weather conditions while performing vigorous physical activities.
Reading maps and blue prints.
Able to:
Lift heavy objects up to 100 pounds and perform strenuous work

Police and Fire personnel participate in the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS). Mandatory employee contribution rate range is currently 7.65% - 11.65% depending on eligible tier with PSPRS.
All employees are eligible to participate in a voluntary deferred compensation plan.
Vacation Employees earn twelve vacation days per year, available for use after six months, with increases to accrual rates in five-year service increments.
Additional Time Off/Sick Leave Employees earn twelve paid sick days per year for use after one month.
Holidays Employees are provided twelve paid holidays per year.
