POSITION PURPOSE:

The Structural Engineer will provide design, calculations and detailed drawings for tower construction, foundations, supporting comms shelters, solar framing, tower equipment mounts, and other construction related projects and designs. The designs will be in support of bids, proposals, internal and customer projects. The ideal candidate is proficient Risa 3D, AutoCAD or other drawing tools (SolidWorks) and software (TNX) while developing calculations to support work content. They should be capable of researching and sourcing materials, interpreting specifications and requirements. The engineer provides recommendations for project tasks, project planning, sequencing work, and implementation strategies. They are capable of working with minimal oversight but willing to follow directions and adhere to construction industry safety standards closely while meeting business critical deadlines.

Function


Design and Business Support

  • Design or redesign complex layouts and structures from general written or verbal specifications from a manager.
  • Produce calculations and CAD drawings for new or improved products using industry, departmental and discipline standards.
  • Work with other teams to obtain reference information for drawings.
  • Work with project team to execute projects on time and on budget.
  • Review design layouts to find and resolve problems involving compatibility with basic design concepts for structures, materials, finishes, etc.
  • Work with engineering and manufacturing team to investigate and resolve problems with existing designs.
  • Participate in engineering design reviews to evaluate design concepts and make recommendations.
  • Read and understand construction drawings.
  • Make corrections to the drawings as requested by the senior staff.
  • Provide alternative design concepts to meet customer requirements.
  • Create material take-offs based on calculations and design drawings
  • Create, maintain, and update a database of design records for future reference purposes and reuse.


Safety

  • Promote, execute, and adhere to the company’s safety program
  • Attend daily and weekly on-site field safety briefings
  • Support safety meetings, training sessions, and inspections as required
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner without intentional or unintentional risks for injuring oneself or endanger the wellbeing of others
  • Cooperate with safety personnel, supervisors, managers, and investigators to ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company and customer’s safety policies.
  • Identify and report safety violations to safety personnel, supervisors, managers


Teamwork

  • Participate as a vital crew member and contribute towards the success of the project and the organization
  • Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas
  • Collaborate with other company personnel to meet organizational and project deadlines, metrics, and mission objectives


Reporting

  • Perform timecard updates daily and sign timecards weekly to support reporting and payroll activities
  • Perform job related reporting requirements per contract and corporate policies.


CORE JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education


  • High school diploma/GED and a
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college


Experience


  • Two years (2) of design experience using Risa 3D, TNX, AutoCAD, (SolidWorks a plus)
  • Experience producing structural, construction, and fabrication calculations and drawings


License, Cert or Registration


  • Current driver’s license
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship


Special knowledge, skills, & abilities


  • Knowledge of structural design, engineering, and construction practices
  • Knowledge of proper use of office equipment
  • Ability to learn and retain task assignments with supervision
  • High-level ability to read and understand calculations, drawings, job specifications, project schedules, quality control requirements, etc.
  • Work schedule may require open availability including weekends, holidays and overnights determined by the needs of the business; must be flexible
  • Knowledge on the use of AutoCAD (essential), Solid Works (preferred), or comparable CAD application
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office products and other project software
  • Experience in electrical, telecommunications, solar or metal fabrication industries a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Must be able to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment, post-offer background check and drug screening
