Structural Avionics Engineer (On-site in Menominee, MI)

**Not remote but candidates will be offered a relocation package**

The Structural Engineer will be responsible for providing engineering support in structural analysis activities involved with the development of rotorcraft products. Activities may include material selection, research, and metallurgical evaluation. The Structural Engineer will put their problem-solving skills to play when dealing with a wide range of engineering problems. Assignments may involve design and development engineering projects related to products and systems. The Structural Engineer may also be involved with the engineering of new products and updates to existing products.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Structural Engineering

  • Develop aerospace fatigue methodology in accordance with FAA AC 27-1B
  • Develop mathematical models of structural behavior using classic hand-calculation and finite element techniques to identify critical part features
  • Conduct analyses determine vibration frequencies, stress, strain, and/or deformation of structure under static, dynamic, and thermal load conditions
  • Verify model behavior through test and experimentation
  • Prepare technical engineering reports related to structural strength, fatigue analyses, static and/or fatigue tests
  • Engineering failure analyses relative to metallurgical and/or structural matters
  • Develop and oversee a coupon test program specific to company materials

Engineering Liaison Support

  • Research structurally related production issues (including purchased items) or field related service issues, as required.
  • Investigate issues, develop solutions, and determine impacts on short-term and long-term production and field support needs.
  • Incorporate design changes as needed.
  • Work with vendors on purchased items to resolve similar issues.

Mentoring

  • Support and mentor less experienced designers and engineers in the Design Engineering department

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree of Science in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Metallurgical Engineering required
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional, avionics work experience
  • Advanced understanding of rotorcraft or general aircraft structure
  • Good understanding of metallic and nonmetallic manufacturing processes and assembly procedures
  • Strong foundation in structural analysis methods and techniques. Must have an understanding of strength of materials, classical stress analysis, and ability to develop and document structural tests to assess structural integrity of component parts.
  • Understanding of FAA rules, regulations, and certification processes
  • Experience with CAD, SolidWorks preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Self-directed and motivated
  • Superior problem solving skills (data-driven and analytical thinking)

  • Ability to work multiple projects and multi-task
  • FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) is desirable, but not required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
