Job description
Duties
Prepares and reviews employee evaluations, initiates disciplinary actions, makes hiring and promotion recommendations. Prioritizes and coordinates work assignments and resources; checks attendance; administers personnel regulations including requests for leave, time and attendance and performance. Trains and counsels employees and maintains up to date information on U.S. postal regulations and Senate rules regarding postal operations; trains new employees and/or supervises their training. Oversees daily audits required of window clerks, auditing window clerks weekly, and audits the main stamp stock and products monthly. Uses spreadsheet and database software to prepare financial reports, maintains files of documentation and reports, creates forms for use for audits and other necessary documentation. Maintains an inventory of stamps and stamp products for sale by window clerks, maintains sufficient USPS forms and supplies for services and USPS equipment. Provides input on policies and procedures. Formulates and monitors budget plans for his/her section, and coordinates with the Assistant Postmaster on budget and programs, including budget schedules and preparation.

Qualifications
Work requires a high school diploma (or GED), and three to five years of increasingly responsible retail postal and financial reporting experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
- Knowledge of all aspects of postal operations, including USPS regulations and other laws and regulations governing the operation of the Senate Post Office.
- Knowledge of managing financial accounts.
- Knowledge of retail postal operations.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of preparing accurate and timely financial statements.
- Knowledge of effective supervisory practices and processes.
- Ability to complete and maintain accurate records and reports.
- Ability to plan, organize and evaluate programs operations.
- Ability to use spreadsheet and database software on a personal computer.
- Ability to coach and mentor employees.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors and customers of the Senate Post Office.
- Ability to communicate effectively.

Work is performed primarily in an office setting.
