Job Description
The County of Passaic is seeking a dynamic Superintendent of Weights and Measures. The Director of Weights and Measures is employed in a civil division with 1300 weighing & measuring devices or less & where the Director is t involved in "inspection" &/or "sealing" duties. This class is responsible for administering & enforcing the provisions of Agriculture & Markets Law, Rules & Regulations as they relate to weights & measures & performs other duties as directed by the local governing body which may include services designed to aid & protect customers.
Duties Include but are not limited to:
- Plans and schedules work assignments on a long-range basis within schedules and priorities established by higher level supervision
- Formulates and approves operating practices.
- Plans and assigns work to subordinates.
- Receives complaints regarding violations of weights and measures laws, examines reports of field inspections, and determines corrective action for serious cases.
- Files papers for prosecution violations.
- Prepares and submits reports.
- Keeps abreast of changes in weights and measures laws and the types of weighing and measuring devices condemned by the state, and keeps subordinates up-to-date on such information.
- Explains and interprets laws and regulations governing weights and measures to users of measuring devices and to others, and gives talks to interested groups.
Requirements
Education: * Completion of W & M training Program
Experience: Five (5) years of experience in servicing, repairing, testing, or calibrating weighing and measuring devices.
Previous Administrative experience and some knowledge of educational entities preferred
Note: 30 Credits can be substituted for experience (Engineering, Physics, Electronics, Mathematics)
License: Valid New Jersey Driver’s License required if operating for the duties of the position
