As a Technical Service Representative, you will play a key role of technical service is a key part of the overall selling effort with our customers based in Ohio. This position serves as a dual role as you will assume primary account responsibility (onsite) from a sales standpoint by providing sales support to maintain and expand business at existing accounts and assist with the start-ups of new accounts. The TSR must be well-versed in product composition, customer application equipment, environmental issues, and processes that are ancillary to the finishing operations. A successful TSR will have to quickly come up to speed with PPG’s Pretreatment, Electrocoat, Powder, and Liquid coating technologies and methodologies to ensure the high level of customer satisfaction that is expected and provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate with PPG EHS guidelines and programs.
  • Take an as it relates to painting quality, addressing/solving issues, and process management, and understand the customer operation to provide all-around service.
  • Build sales position by establishing customer relationships at all levels, providing resolution to customers’ concerns, and quickly troubleshooting problems.
  • Oversee/implement strategies for managing inventory programs at customer locations of PPG products to increase inventory turns, reduce product obsolescence, and maximize freight advantages.
  • Identify customers’ needs/expectations and assess competitive activities such that sales strategies can be developed to increase sales/profits.
  • Maximize profit contribution by difference through technical problem solving which produces higher yield rates, lower reject rates, and optimum appearance on the customer’s production line.
  • Primary contact person for all customer complaints and questions. Will be the lead spokesperson/liaison in communicating between the customer and internal PPG support departments.
  • May be asked to lead customer projects, assist with process improvements, and look for cost savings for the customer. This will also include inventory management, which may include ordering all products for the customer and developing usage reports.
  • Individuals may also service other customers in surrounding states and support the sales and service team.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required. Bachelor’s degree.
  • Pretreat, Ecoat, Powder, and Liquid coatings experience.
  • Application troubleshooting experience in two or more technologies
  • Willingness to travel daily to service customers.
  • Experience with Statistical Process Control and lean principles
