ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Technical Writer is a key member of the Shared Services department with the primary role of developing compelling technical content for use by internal and external customers. Leveraging sharp interpersonal skills, you will be collaborating with all parts of the company through interviews, meetings, observing processes and researching existing documentation. The ability to capture the operational and technical know-how from multiple viewpoints and synthesize into coherent and compelling content is paramount.
The Technical Writer role is critical to the overall success of
Toofon as it will enable our customers to get started faster, our employees to orient quicker, and our organization to build a culture of continuous learning. Success in this role will require working with a hybrid workforce that is deeply technical as well as customers and coworkers that do not have a deep technical understanding of the product.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create external help content (manuals / guides, reference materials, and FAQ’s) and internal services content (knowledge base, standard operating procedures, and training resources).
- Improve existing documentation based on feedback from a breadth of stakeholders.
- Work with functional area managers to ensure safety procedures are documented, up to date, and accessible online for new hire training.
- Craft authoritative, accessible copy with the ability to pivot tone of voice depending on the project.
- Draft technical content to create instructions for the assembly and maintenance of new products and features.
- Support flight test engineering in the development of pilot operating handbooks.
- Support design engineers to document new features as a part of the product release process.
- Contribute to the organization's communications strategy.
- Strong attention to detail and interpersonal skills.
- Thrive in a startup environment with passion, curiosity, and self-direction.
- Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with designers & technicians to ensure that content is accurate and written for the appropriate audience.
- Experience working with developers on concise, helpful user interface text.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Bachelor's degree preferred in Technical/Professional Writing/ Communications/Marketing, or a related field and/or equivalent experience.
- Prior Experience: 3+ years of experience as a technical writer, grant writer, graduate student, or with other relevant experience creating documentation for a technical audience.
- Computer Skills: Google Workspace.
- Technical Skills: Impeccable writing skills and attention to details in grammar, syntax, and spelling. Strong verbal communication skills.
- Industry-Specific Knowledge: STEM background and experience. Interest in aerospace, aviation and drones is preferred but not required.
- Preferred: Strong interpersonal skills, innovative thinker, and independent learner. Wiki tools, LaTeX editor, code documentation experience.
