POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Teen Leader
DEPARTMENT: Operations Department
REPORTS TO: Assistant Club Director
STATUS: Part-time, Up to 28 hours/week, Non-Exempt
HOURLY RATE: $16.00
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
This position will typically work the hours of Monday - Friday 3:00pm-8:30pm. This position will work with school-aged youth and adolescents (12-18 years of age) in an out-of-school environment. This position will work closely with other staff, will plan, implement, supervise, and evaluate activities and programs provided for youth focusing on sports, recreation and fitness. This position includes evenings/weekend hours to accommodate special events and may include additional daytime hours for early-release and non-school days. Non-school day programming runs 11 am – 6 pm and can support facility needs until 8:30 pm.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Create and implement fun and exciting activities that inspire participation within guidelines as outlined by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County in the 5 Key Areas focusing on the needs and interests of adolescents:
- Inclusive of all members through flexible adaptation of programs and activities as necessary to meet the needs of members
- Create and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and preparation of necessary materials
- Communicate positively and create relationships with members, families and community during programs and special events as assigned and under the direction of assigned supervisor(s)
- Provide positive guidance, redirection, and be a role model to members
- Implement and participate in grant funded programs as assigned
- Meet the required number of continuing education hours and qualifications (provided)
- Provide services and activities under the supervision of assigned supervisor(s) to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the Club always.
- Maintain safety by ensuring equipment and environment are appropriately maintained
- Lead and escort members throughout the facility while always providing sight and sound supervision
- Apply appropriate positive guidance and behavior management techniques through the guidance of the Assistant Club Director
- Arrange program spaces to meet developmentally appropriate leaning environment standards
- Always maintain member attendance and tracking procedures
- Clean, disinfect and/or sanitize program materials and spaces
- Adhere to regulations as outlined in DCF 251 as applicable to school-age members (ages 5-13) and Teen Best Practices
- Abstain from personal phone usage while supervising members
Ensure a productive work environment by engaging in professional behavior:
- Participate in Club staff meetings
- Attending training and staff development sessions as scheduled up to 25 hours per year for DCF requirements
- Collaborate with assigned Youth Leaders, Assistant Youth Leaders, volunteers, and partner programs
- Uphold our organizational core values and code of ethics
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- May be required to participate in special programs and/or events
- May be required to drive Club vans
- Requires night/weekend hours and may require additional day hours
- Other duties as assigned
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional, volunteer and partner programs), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External: Follows all policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook regarding professional behavior.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- At least 21 years of age
- High School Diploma/GED/HSED
- At least 1 year prior teen development experience.
- Eligibility as a Caregiver by the Department of Children and Families
- Successful completion of drug screening, physical examination and tuberculosis testing.
- CPR certified within 3 months of assuming the position.
- The ability and desire to work with adolescents in a variety of settings.
- Flexibility, adaptability and desire to work in a team environment.
- Evening/Weekend Availability
REQUIRED HOURS
The regular hours for this position are 3:00pm-8:30pm and 11am-6:00pm on Non-School Days. This role may requires hours outside of Operations to support customer needs, events and training. Holiday and weekend hours may be needed as project deadlines and events dictate. Must be able to travel to off-site Clubs, meetings, and events.
WORK LOCATION
His is a direct service role working with youth and adolescents in person. This role will travel between Club Locations based on the needs of the organization. All COVID-19-mandated policies must be followed as posted.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical requirements: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and policy manuals. The ability to clearly and concisely exchange/receive ideas, facts and/or technical information with others. Ability to visually monitor activities of club members. The employee is required to be able to perform CPR or first aid. The employee is required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb or balance, and stoop, jump, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may need to operate a motor vehicle. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee is required to stand or walk for extended periods of time. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
