Job Title: Trainer

Pay Structure: Non-Exempt


Overall Summary:

The Trainer is responsible for training machine operators in all aspects of running equipment, specific work functions, and accountabilities. The Trainer will record each participant’s progress against standard operating procedures and quality audits.


Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conduct classroom training sessions and on-the-job production floor training.
  • Demonstrate sorting, back feeding, and machine operations procedures.
  • Assist trainees in hands-on experience and for practice in these procedures.
  • Monitor daily performance of trainees to ensure efficient operation of machinery and use of correct procedures.
  • Inspect materials processed regularly to ensure acceptable levels of quality.
  • Training operators on equipment including: Inserting, Bindery, Affixing and Commingling.
  • Providing facility tour for new hires and properly identifying emergency exits, restrooms, safety. procedures, incident response teams and other applicable areas.
  • Training new hires in the use of the time and attendance system (Foundation).
  • Ensuring thorough understanding of job instructions, machine set-ups, quality procedures, the importance of taking accurate measurements and operating equipment safely and effectively.
  • Following a training schedule, providing hands-on training and monitoring the daily performance of trainees to ensure efficient operation of machinery and adherence of proper procedures.
  • Working with Quality Coordinators to audit and evaluate trainee’s quality performance.
  • Following all established safety procedures, taking precautions to avoid hazardous conditions.
  • Performing ergonomics audits to ensure compliance with best practices.
  • Providing performance feedback to supervisors.
  • Conferring with supervisor if/when employees are not implementing the procedures and practices that they learned.
  • Contributing ideas and/or suggestions to improve the training process on all applicable machine operations to assure efficiency, quality and safety standards are met.
  • Perform other (or other related) duties as applicable or assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities/Competencies:

  • Ability to read and write English and understand oral and written communications.
  • Lean Manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Quality Assurance/Control experience.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to operate as a team player.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of Manufacturing/Production environment experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work consecutively 12-hour shifts, rotating 3 or 4 days per week including weekend rotations.
  • Ability to work overtime when needed.
  • Standard climate-controlled production environment; exposure to loud noise (PPE is provided).
  • Ability to lift, carry and push/pull up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, pivot, crouch, squat, kneel, and stoop for up to 12 hours.
  • Upper extremity motion requirements: fine motor movements, pushing/pulling with arms, grasping and pinching.
  • Lower extremity motion requirements: reaching.
  • Pre-employment post-offer comprehensive assessment required.
  • Pre-employment background check and drug test required.
