As an Underground Miner at the Fairport Mine, this person will:

Performs a variety of tasks daily to support underground mining operations. Tasks assigned will vary daily, weekly, or monthly basis operational need and will range from simple to complex in nature. Light and heavy equipment operation will be required as part of this position.

General Working Conditions:

• Works in an underground mine where temperatures range from 78o – 100oF in the work area. The relative humidity is high in summer and low in winter.
• Work areas are generally dry.
• Lighting is provided in key areas; however most areas are illuminated only by a miners cap lamp and/or by equipment lighting.
• Floor heave is prevalent and may result in uneven floor conditions. Floors may also be polished by mobile equipment traffic resulting in slippery footing.
• Some work must be done around machinery and equipment that is in motion, as well as around energized power cables.
• As with all work underground, this position requires attention be paid to roof and rib conditions.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• High school degree or equivalent educational experience.
• Must be 18 years of age
• Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 65 pounds
• Positive attitude and strong work ethic
• Must be able to work at heights in excess of 20 feet
• Must be able to wear approximately 20-30 pounds of safety gear for duration of shift
• Must be able to complete shift durations from 8 to 12 hours in an 85F environment while completing manual labor.
• Must be able to apply for an ATF license through Morton Salt
• Able to work independently and as an active member of a team
• Good interpersonal skills and communication with all levels of management
• Prior experience with heavy equipment is a positive but due to specific nature mining equipment not required.

Final shift and position assignment determinations will be made to fill available openings upon completion of the interview process. Experience and qualifications presented during the interview process will be evaluated for best fit when multiple job openings exist.
