Job summary: The Department of Public Health Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina invites applications for a tenure track Assistant or Associate position to work closely with the Data Coordination Unit (DCU). The DCU specializes in the design of clinical trials and analysis of their data and in establishing, implementing and maintaining data and project management systems for multicenter clinical trials. The DCU has coordinated over 70 multicenter clinical trials, majority funded by the National Institutes of Health. Potential exists for a wide variety of areas of collaboration in clinical trials, especially in neurology, cardiac diseases, stroke and internal medicine.
The successful candidate must have a doctoral degree in biostatistics with a strong background in methods research, applicable to clinical trials. Candidates should be willing to collaborate with researchers across the country from various medical fields conducting clinical trials, write extramural grant applications as the data coordinating center for multicenter trials and, and teach and mentor students in biostatistics and other public health specialties.
The ideal candidate should have the following experience and skills:
- Current and emerging issues in clinical trial design, implementation, and analysis
- Research interest in adaptive and Bayesian clinical trial designs
- Collaborating with clinical trialists within and outside the organization
- Developing proposals for grant submissions
- Mentorship and teaching of graduate students
DPHS is home to a talented and diverse faculty with appointments in a range of public health specialties including: Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Biomedical Informatics and Data Science, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Epidemiology, and Health Services Research. The department has two successful and long-standing masters and doctoral degree programs in biostatistics and epidemiology, and offers three MPH degrees in biostatistics, epidemiology, and health behavior and health promotion. In the fall of 2017, the department launched a joint doctoral training program with Clemson University in Biomedical Data Science & Informatics.
