University Student Teacher Supervisors complete several days of paid training, facilitate meetings with each mentor teacher-student pair, conduct 8 video-based observation cycles per teacher candidate per year (fall and spring), communicate candidates' progress to the Teacher Education faculty and staff, and complete observation feedback prompts and mid-term/ final evaluations. University Student Teacher Supervisors may also be asked to facilitate seminars and provide additional support to students in their locale.

The Teacher Education Program in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education at the School of Education and Human Development is seeking University Student Teacher Supervisors (USTS) with extensive teaching or supervision experience to provide supervision to student teachers in multiple teacher licensure programs in their clinical placements located in Charlottesville and Albemarle County-area public schools.

The successful applicant will facilitate meetings with mentor teacher/student teacher pairs, conduct in-person observation cycles with student teachers (3 cycles in the fall semester and 5 cycles in the spring semester, communicate students' progress to the Teacher Education faculty and staff, and complete observation feedback prompts and mid-term/ final evaluations.

Applicants must have a bachelor's or master’s degree in education, at least three years of full-time experience teaching PreK-12 students in public schools, knowledge of current best practices in education, and a current or previously held professional teaching license. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills are also required. A master's degree in education, five or more years of teaching experience, previous experience mentoring student teachers, and experience working with novice teachers are also preferred.

Applicants should be comfortable with frequent email, text, and Zoom check-ins with their students, as well as the use of learning assessment and management systems. Proficiency with basic computer applications (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) is also required.

Applicants must have high-speed internet access and personal tablets or computers with video streaming capability, experience using learning/assessment management programs, and be able to respond to email or text inquiries within 24 hours. USTS may also be asked to provide additional coaching and support to the students if needed.

Applicants should expect to communicate regularly with the academic program coordinators and seminar instructors of their students, as well as the Teacher Education Office.

All initial meetings, observations, and final evaluation meetings are in-person. Mileage reimbursement is provided for up to three meetings per semester.

Applicants must be available to attend a paid training day in the summer at UVA in Charlottesville, Virginia.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


Education: Bachelor's degree required, Masters Degree preferred
Experience: Three years full time experience teaching PreK-12 students in public school.
Licensure: None

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
