The Runner is an entry-level position in the veterinary field. This is an individual generally with less than 1 year of veterinary experience whether on the job training or in an AVMA accredited school. This position starts with transporting patients from their owners to the triage team or to specialty appointments and is then trained in basic animal husbandry and other areas of hospital services and care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Safely transport patients of all species from the lobby and parking lot to a triage team or specialty technician.
• Check patients in and out of the hospital.
• Ensure client information sheet is completed
• Assist Technicians which may include (as requested)
  • Clean exam rooms, counters, floors, kitchen, ICU, treatment, vacuum, empty trash as needed.
  • Gather, wash, dry, fold laundry and store away.
  • Stock ICU, treatment areas and exam rooms.
  • Restrain animals for blood draws, radiographs, outpatient procedures.
  • Walk patients.
• Effective & regular client communication.

Requirements:

• 1+ year of veterinary or animal handling experience.
• Strong knowledge of animal behavior and safe handing techniques.
• Detail oriented and well organized.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Self-motivated.
• Team-oriented.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Able to lift 50 pounds.
