Harvard Book Store is looking for a Warehouse Manager for our Needham warehouse location. The Warehouse Manager reports to the General Manager and will work closely with the Buying & Inventory Manager and the Store Manager to maintain a high-functioning warehouse that is fully integrated with all store operations. The Harvard Book Store warehouse is located at 330 Reservoir St in Needham, MA, and there is employee parking available.
Warehouse Operations:
The Warehouse Manager’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Hiring, training, and overseeing the warehouse staff, including seasonal and temporary employees;
- Managing day-to-day warehouse operations, including receiving merchandise shipped to the warehouse, organizing inventory, and managing movement of merchandise to the bookstore
- Communicating with vendors and with the buying department to identify and solve problems with inventory and receiving
- Organizing and implementing the logistics for seasonal warehouse sales of remainder titles
- Managing shipments of online orders for Harvard University insignia
- Maintain good communication with the Web Team to identify and solve problems with specific orders and to improve procedures
- Maintain good communication with the Assistant Buying Manager for Sidelines to ensure sufficient and accurate inventory to fulfill orders
- Collaborate on customer service communications when problems arise
- Managing and maintaining the warehouse facilities and warehouse van
- Managing communications between the warehouse and other company departments
- Attend weekly Ops Meeting with other store operations managers
Future Planning:
Harvard Book Store is in the process of expanding, with a new location opening at the Prudential Center in Boston in Spring 2023. The Warehouse Manager will work toward future projects essential to a growing store, including, but not limited to:
- Planning for the logistics around moving merchandise between the warehouse and two store locations
- Developing systems for processing bulk order shipments and subscription club shipments from the warehouse
- Determining if in-person warehouse sales are feasible at our current warehouse location, and developing plans and schedules for executing such sales, in coordination with other departments
- Consulting with the General Manager on staffing needs to support the expanding business
Previous supervisory and leadership experience is essential. The successful applicant will be demonstrably reliable, honest, detail-oriented, and diligent. They will also be proactive in motivating and directing staff, including a willingness and ability to communicate among different departments.
This is a salaried position with the potential for occasional weekend hours. Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes health benefits.
