The Web Enterprises Java Software Engineer functions as a system analyst, developer, architect, consultant, liaison, problem solver and solution developer for various business areas of Capital Blue Cross. They will often work autonomously but will also be part of teams for various projects.

- Developing portlets, servlets, and Script Applications for HCL Digital Experience (Portal and Web Content Manager)
- Developing Java web applications using the JSF framework for Tomcat and OpenLiberty

- Java, including the JSF framework. Familiarity with Java Batch (JSR-352) is a plus.
- JavaScript and JQuery
- SQL (and working with databases including Oracle and SQL server)
- HTML
- CSS and Bootstrap
- Familiarity with consuming SOAP and RESTful services
The Web Enterprises Java Software Engineer will have a background and working knowledge in data base management technologies, data modeling practices and data base platforms, accepted analysis and design concepts to resolve customer business problems, project management techniques, server technologies and platforms, network technology and web security technology. They use their experience and technical knowledge as well as their knowledge of existing business practices, systems, procedures, policies, current testing tools/practices and their inter-relationships to architect, develop and provide innovative approaches and solutions to business problems and requirements.
Responsible for one or more of the following:
- Leading, planning and controlling complex projects
- Defining customer requirements
- Analyzing, designing and architecting complex solutions to business problems
- Programming new complex systems
- Maintaining existing complex systems
- Coordinating creation and change of data structures
- Integrating vendor packages
- Researching new complex tools, technologies, or platforms
- Thoroughly testing all program logic
- Creating test plans
- Supporting the customer
When analyzing and designing complex solutions, the incumbent is responsible for developing cost effective automated solutions that meet business requirements. To successfully accomplish this goal, close customer contact is required.
The incumbent reviews current procedures/systems and proposes recommended solutions and alternatives to satisfy customer requests for system enhancements.

Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of accepted analysis and design concepts to resolve complex customer business problems.
- Working knowledge of data base management technologies, data modeling practices and data base platforms for complex solutions.
- 3+ years of experience of developing complex web based applications for HCL Digital Experience (Portal and Web Content Manger), Tomcat, and OpenLiberty.
- Knowledge of Java (including JSP and JSF), JavaScript (including JQuery), SQL, HTML, CSS (including Bootstrap), SQL, HTML, and web services.
- Working knowledge of customer business practices, procedures and concepts. Knowledge of project management techniques. Working knowledge of server technologies and platforms.
- Working knowledge of network technology.
- Working knowledge of web security technology.
Skills:
- Ability to provide periodic off-hours assistance to support customers and ITD initiatives (e.g. system testing or review).
- Ability to plan, organize, lead and control complex projects.
- Ability to use persuasion and negotiation skills to resolve differences with skill and understanding.
- Ability to handle multiple complex projects concurrently
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities of multiple customers
- Ability to work independently and/or as a member of a project team
- Ability to effectively listen and communicate (written and verbal) with technical and non-technical audiences. Communication will include oral presentations and/or written documents/documentation.
- Familiarity with the healthcare insurance industry.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years I/T experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Education, Certification, and Licenses:
A Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field preferred.
