Track Welder
Reports to: Vice President and Assistant Vice President of Maintenance of Way
Job Overview: A Track Welder works with other members of the MOW department to plan and execute projects across the Reading and Northern system such as but not limited to, general welding, welding repairs, general maintenance of rails, and assist in all areas of track maintenance when necessary.
Responsibilities and Duties:
· Assist divisional leaders in completing daily work assignments.
· Report to various locations encompassing the entire railroad system.
· Perform basic maintenance on railroad track structure or bridge structures.
· Keep the worksite clean of trash and debris even if it is unrelated to the work performed.
· Always use appropriate PPE to work safely.
· Complete daily work report.
· Responsible for getting shift tasks completed on time.
· Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints and other written instructions and diagrams.
· Perform MIG, Stick, Air Arc, and other types of welding based on project needs.
· Safely use oxygen and acetylene torches.
· Repair turnouts, switch points, and other rail head defects as necessary.
· Select proper fillers for jobs based on previous experience or project instructions.
· Surface grinding, as necessary, to achieve proper texture and transition.
· Other duties and special welding projects as assigned and required.
Qualifications
· Ability to work around loud machines and equipment.
· Ability to work alone or in mixed groups.
· Ability to work in all kinds of weather conditions.
· Basic construction understanding use of tools such as but not limited to shovels, sledgehammers, picks, wrenches, and hydraulic tools.
· Must be able to lift up to, but not limited to, 80lbs.
· Ability to bend, stand, kneel, climb, lie down, or sit for long periods.
· Effective verbal and written communication skills.
· Must be at least 18 years of age.
· Finger dexterity, operation of motor vehicle, operation of equipment, manage multiple tasks/projects, close attention to detail and adapt to ever changing work environment.
· Valid driver’s license.
· Operational vehicle to commute to/from work.
· Positive attitude.
· Open-mindedness to rapid change and discussion of various ways to execute projects.
· Exposure to chemicals, noise, dust, and heights.
- Ability to pass an FRA-mandated background check, pre-employment screening and ongoing random drug screening.

Pay: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
