About Barrier Free Living (BFL):
Barrier Free Living (BFL) is dedicated to helping New Yorkers with disabilities live independently in
the community. Through its various programs, BFL provides a broad range of residential and non-
residential services to disabled survivors of domestic violence. Services include case management;
housing placements; independent living skills training; occupational therapy; short- and long-term
individual counseling; advocacy within the medical, mental health, child welfare, law enforcement,
and criminal justice systems; and referrals to outside services.

About Barrier Free Living Apartments (BFLA)
BFLA is a supportive housing program. BFLA offers services to vulnerable and needy populations
with disabilities who are survivors of domestic violence, specifically, homeless disabled adults and
disabled veterans and for families who have a head of household with a disabling medical condition.
BFLA program is physically designed and equipped to serve people with physical disabilities. This
program’s facility is located in the South Bronx. There are two buildings: a 70-unit studio apartment
building for adult singles and a 50-unit apartment building for families. BFLA’s supportive housing
program is located on Cypress Avenue and East 138th.

Role Summary:
The onsite Wellness Coordinator will coordinate with the Occupational Therapy (OT) department to ensure tenants in both single and family buildings are connected to wraparound services through individually tailored sessions and group workshops. This position reports to the Program Director of BFL Apartments.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead a comprehensive wellness program to support the inclusion of tenants living comfortably in their apartments and in the community.
  • Collaborate with OT Program Manager and staff to connect all tenants to wraparound service in the community and based on tenant needs.
  • Perform screenings and assessments to tailor individual treatment plans.
  • Plan, implement, and facilitate group offerings and events aimed at improving tenants' overall wellness.
  • Outreach to develop and maintain relationships with various partners and community organizations.
  • Participate in scheduled program-related meetings, training and case consultations.
  • Maintain and keep an inventory of all supplies and equipment needed at BFL Apartments.
  • Communicates and collaborates with support staff re: all tenant-related issues.
  • Generate monthly reporting/statistics of services provided.

Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy, Activity Therapy, Kinesiology, Social Work, Nursing.
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience working in Community Mental Health.
  • The position requires traveling for outreach, awareness trauma-informed provision of services, and sensitivity to cultural and socio-economic characteristics of the populations served.
  • Must have strong leadership skills, a good ability to work collaboratively with professionals, ability to set appropriate limits with tenants and coworkers, excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team, communicate.
  • effectively both orally and in writing and receive and provide feedback.
  • Excellent computer skills in Google applications (such as docs and sheets) and skills in database management and record keeping.
  • Must have a strong ability to work independently.
  • Bilingual (Spanish or ASL), preferred.

Hourly Rate:
Status: Part-Time / Non-Exempt
Hours per week: 21
Schedule: 9 AM to 5 PM, Three days a week on site (remote work NOT available)
Equipment Operated: Computer/Laptop, Printer, Scanner, Phone, Adaptive Devices, etc.
Work Environment: This position will spend time at the program site and have an independent (private) office.
