Position: Workers Compensation Associate

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Weekly Rate of Pay: $1,054.72 ($974.04 + $80.68 FICA Reimbursement)

Department: Electrical Employers Self Insurance Safety Plan (EESISP)

Location: Flushing, NY Onsite (No remote work) – Monday thru Friday

SUMMARY:

JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the EESISP Supervisor/Assistant Supervisor, under close supervision, the Workers Compensation Associate will perform various duties including but not limited to:

  • Schedule independent medical exams (360 exams annually).
  • Send ADR-1’s (first notice of claim) to the Workers’ Compensation Board (1000-1200 annually).
  • Send accident confirmation and claim numbers to the employer and employee (1000-1200 annually).
  • Input Workers’ Compensation Board claim numbers on EESISP claims when received (1000-1200 annually).
  • Verify and update member’s address in File handler claims system (annually 1000-1200).
  • File and send WCB documents (C-6’s, C-7’s, C-8’s and ADR-2’s) to members and/or the WCB (1000-1200 annually).
  • Assist with 3rdparty subpoena requests for records (10-20 monthly estimate) and input lawsuit closing statements into File handler (100 annually).
  • Serve as back up to set up trustee meetings, mediation, and arbitration calendars, all held monthly.
  • Track, open and distribute incoming daily mail.
  • Coding of certified payrolls.
  • Record third party invoice payments received. (175 annually).
  • Assist in the relief of the receptionist with the telephones.
  • Assist with other related projects or task as necessary.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office -- customer service environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as desktop computers, phone, scanner, printer, keyboard, photocopiers, shredder, and fax.

Physical Demands

Sedentary work environment with physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job. This would require the ability to lift files, pull files/forms/books, stand, bending, shred documents, open/close filing cabinets as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time onsite 35 hours per week– Non-Exempt (OPEIU Local 153) position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:30AM-4:30PM.

Flexibility: Must be able to work overtime when necessary.

Travel

No travel is expected for this position.

Required Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Familiar with the scope of communications submitted to Workers’ Compensation Board (sending and receiving notifications from the Workers’ Compensation Board).
  • Prior experience working in Worker’s Compensation environment.
  • Prior experience as a Workers’ Compensation paralegal is required.
  • Demonstrable computer skills (Microsoft Word, Outlook, & Excel) (skills test will be required).
  • Strict adherence to confidentiality requirements of the EESISP Department.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Strong verbal and writing skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Flexible and willing to adapt with the needs of the Department.
  • Ability to work professionally and cooperatively with others.
  • Must be detail oriented and organized.
