About Commonwealth Medicine:
This position, reporting to the Associate Director for Marketing Communications, will be leveraged across the organization, working particularly closely with Sales Operations and organizational subject matter experts (SMEs) in a fast-paced environment. The Writer and Editor will contribute to writing, editing, refreshing, and/or proofing a wide range of strategically critical content. This content includes, but is not limited to, client reports and deliverables, marketing collateral, sales material, and web and digital content to support Commonwealth Medicine’s multiple business units as well as leadership communications to support the executive team. All writing will adhere to brand and editorial guidelines.
About Commonwealth Medicine:
Commonwealth Medicine is the consulting and operations division of the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School (UMass Chan). We have been working with state and federal agencies and other health care organizations since 1983 to help solve health care challenges. The success of that early work led to the establishment of Commonwealth Medicine as a full health care consulting division of UMass Chan in 1999. Our services and capabilities have expanded over the years based on the needs of these clients and the ever-changing health care landscape. Today, we draw on the academic knowledge, research studies, and public health service expertise of our 1,200 Commonwealth Medicine and 4,800 UMass Chan colleagues to provide comprehensive, innovative health care and policy solutions.
Our primary focus is to help both public and private health and human service agencies and organizations fulfill their mission by offering a full range of solutions to address strategic, organizational, clinical, financial, operational, and policy challenges. Our team of experts includes clinicians, pharmacists, policy, research, and technology professionals. With our help, and supported by a world-class public medical school, government agencies, nonprofits, and managed care organizations across the country are able to meet today’s health care challenges — and are prepared for what’s to come.
Responsibilities:
Expertly craft customized content for various targeted audiences so that it reflects that specific audience and their needs and interests while still maintaining the single, cohesive, consistent voice of Commonwealth Medicine.
Develop, write, edit, refresh, and/or proof engaging, specific content for a range of audiences and clients that will differentiate our brand and voice, including but not limited to:
Update material to incorporate feedback and/or reflect a change in tone or direction.
Craft enterprise stories and new narratives through interactions and interviews with SMEs.
Perform reviews and edits of content, including client deliverables and business proposals, ensuring the information satisfies any client requirements/requests, contains the discussed information, and reflects the expected level of quality.
Contribute to the writing of persuasive proposal responses for assigned sections, as appropriate, and potentially act as an editor for proposals as a whole.
Translate complex solutions and methodologies into easily understandable, readable, and compelling material; translate technical information and business jargon into clear, consistent, and grammatically correct content.
Provide expert-level copyediting as needed.
Potentially handle sensitive and/or confidential information.
Contribute to the overall department activities (e.g., creating one-pagers, emails, product descriptions, sales decks, conference messaging, etc.).
Perform other duties as required.
