Position Title: Writing Lab Coordinator
Summary: The Writing Lab supports excellence in education by providing one-on-one support to undergraduate and graduate students during all stages of the writing process. This includes pre-writing consultations, proofreading, editing, and suggestions for improvement in student writing.
Position Classification: Exempt/
Reports to: Dean
Hours: Cap of 6 hours/week
Salary/Rate: $22.00 pr hour

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
- Demonstrable excellence in teaching and practical experience in midwifery education or a related higher education discipline
- Background in academic writing and editing
- Proficiency in G Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe software.
Preferred Qualifications
- A master’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent writing and publishing experience
- Familiarity in direct-entry midwifery education and training routes, professional issues, learning competencies, and midwifery specific documents
- Experience working in a distance or telecommuting work environment

- Uses skills of detail-orientation, self-direction, motivation and organization to complete tasks and meet responsibilities required for the position
Position Duties and Responsibilities
- Responds to student questions regarding writing questions within two business days
- Returns edited drafts to students within seven business days
- Offers thorough feedback in regard to all elements of student writing.
- In collaboration with the VP of Academic Affairs support the creation of MCU policy regarding writing, academic misconduct, and use of Large Language models
- Maintains Writing Lab link/website and updates as appropriate.
- Teaches and/or oversees the introductory APA, copyright, practice guidelines, and plagiarism mini-courses to the MCU student community.
- Provides continuing copyright, APA, and practice guideline policy education to faculty and staff as needed.
- Collaborates closely with the English instructor(s) and all faculty in identifying patterns or gaps in student understanding of the writing process.
- Communicates with the student body as appropriate.
- Read and understand the Employee Handbook, and MCU’s Title IX and Drug and Alcohol Policies
