Summary: The McGaw YMCA is seeking a responsible, engaging and supportive after school fitness and sports attendant to lead older youth and teens through healthy, active programming in our Y community. This position supports supervision of youth ages 6-17 in both our fitness center and adjacent basketball gym to provide a safe haven for youth to grow in physical, mental and social health during the critical after school hours.

Key responsibilities:

  • Monitor and ensure safety of youth in fitness center and basketball gym
  • Demonstrate and orientate youth ages 11-14 to proper usage of select fitness center cardio and weight equipment
  • Lead youth ages 11-17 through structured fitness programming (e.g. speed and agility circuits)
  • Organize inclusive sports and game play for youth ages 6-10
  • Positively interact with parents and caregivers to build relationships, trust and value in Y youth and teen programming
  • Support space utilization and a smooth member experience with integrated youth and adult audiences
  • Uphold the Y's child abuse prevention, child development and strategic objective work
  • Execute strategy to grow program acquisition, retention and satisfaction variables

Qualifications:

  • Age 21+
  • Strong background and knowledge in proper, developmentally-appropriate exercise techniques
  • Ability to organize inclusive, educational and engaging game play across a variety of sports
  • Capacity to demonstrate superior independence in supervision, decision making and rule enforcement
  • Excellence in motivating youth to participate in healthy activity
  • Ability to relate with positive communication and rapport across youth, parent, member, staff and community stakeholders

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 per hour
