911 Telecommunicator/Dispatcher | Collinsville Police Department

The City of Collinsville is accepting applications for a full-time position of 911 Telecommunicator. This is a full-time, union, hourly position that reports to the Civilian Support Services Supervisor or the Sergeant on Duty. This position will be dispatching for police, fire, and EMS to calls for service and to monitor their status.

This position is responsible for maintaining liaison between police officers and the department, police officers and the public, fire personnel and the public, and the public and other emergency personnel. Duties include but are not limited to monitoring, communicating, and recording radio activity of field units, conducting periodic safety checks to recognize situations when assistance is necessary, providing assistance according to department policy and procedure; answering 911 and non-emergency calls, including fire and EMS calls, screening information, prioritizing call and forwarding appropriate information to the proper authority.

This position maintains and responds to a variety of computerized records systems to include: New World Records Management System, LEADS/NCIC, ProQA/EMD, Eventide call recording system, Chronicall Phone System, and the building security system in carrying out required duties.

Various shifts as assigned with some mandatory extended shifts and overtime work; day, evening, and midnight shifts, holiday and weekend work are required.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent with preference given to candidates with previous experience as 911 dispatcher. LEADS Certification and/or 911 Certification are highly desirable.

• Must be CPR certified or have ability to receive certification within a reasonable amount of time upon appointment to position.
• Must pass a criminal background investigation and be free of felony convictions.
• Must pass pre-employment screening test, including hearing test, and physical exam.
• Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to handle stressful, potentially handling life-threatening situations with callers and with members of the police/fire departments while on a call for service.
• Must have the ability to multi-task with minimal errors.

SALARY and BENEFITS

The base hourly rate is $25.94 per hour during probation and $31.87 per hour after successful completion of probationary period. The City of Collinsville offers a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, vision and prescription 100% funded by the City for single coverage, and retiree health insurance benefits. Pension is with the Illinois Municipal Retirement System.
